We are looking at a few new construction homes and I am seeing a trend towards under counter washers and dryers. Any recommends if you MUST have a front loader? FWIW we have had a kenmore agitator less (think its LG) top load set for 6.5 years with no trouble at all.

Obviously, stay away from Samsung.

My mom and MIL have LG and GE. They are both ok, but they would never go with front end loaders again.

I've had samsung and Bosch front load set and didn't have any problems with each. However, I am building a new house and I'm going back to a top load and I don't plan to ever have a front load again. They stink in the literal sense of the word. I've taken them apart and the crap that builds up inside of them is disgusting. If you can at all avoid the front load washer...do it.

If you can't avoid it and you go against everyone's suggestions... make sure you don't use too much detergent. The two main causes of the smell (per a couple service techs I've talked to) are people never leaving the door open so it dries b/t uses AND the overuse of detergent. A front load washer can wash a load with half of the suggested detergent. People incorrectly think that adding extra detergent will somehow make their clothes cleaner. It's the opposite b/c these washers are meant to use limited amounts of water. The extra detergent never fully washes out of the clothes and will buildup in the crevices/gaskets of the washer.

LG and Samsung make some slick units but I still think you can't go wrong with a Maytag. American made and owned by Whirlpool. I think Whirlpool also makes Kenmore appliances as well.

LG makes Kenmore appliances. Stay away from Samsung, LG and Kenmore. Maytag or Whirlpool are good name brands to stick with.

If you must have a front loader, then buy one in your price range that you are ok with replacing in 5-7 years. Like other posters have said they start to stink and have issues around this time. There are always exceptions, but if you look at it this way then no matter which one you pick will be ok.

If you can go with a top loader then go "SpeedQueen" or check with a local repair show for older model Maytags that some idiot has sold them. You will play top dollar from them but these units are easy to repair with parts you can buy from ebay. Our 1995 Maytags washer and dryer are still going strong today because I can get the parts cheap and replace it myself. Very simple to repair.

No, some of the homes we are looking at are spec homes or recent builds in the last year or two and have marble/quartz countertops over the WD spaces.

if I had a choice and was building (that's still an option) I would go top loads for sure. I'm not going to let it sway us from a a house that's already finished though.

Just buy the top loading speed queen with the agitator and be done with it. I will never understand why the aesthetics and fancy lights and led panel of a washing machine would ever enter the thought process.

Speed Queens are American Made and built like a brick shite house. And most importantly, they get your clothes really clean.

My next one will be top load. The front loaders don't clean worth a shite.
