Is it a shitty rule? Yes. Is it the right call based in the rule? Yes.

His feet come off the ground and the end and his full weight goes onto the QB piling him into the ground.

I hate the rule myself, but all Matthews has to do is stop lifting his body off the ground on those tackles.

You say that like it’s fricking easy. These are huge men sprinting to tackle the QB. The entire hit to the ground process is maybe a second. They can’t just change their momentum and the force of gravity like it’s nothing.

There’s a difference between forcefully driving someone into the ground and a textbook tackle where they just fall and gravity takes over.

You are mistaken.

Owners, quit allocating so much of your limited payroll in a fragile asset like a QB so you have to resort to ruining the game with ridiculous rules like this to protect them.

If they are that worried about protecting the QB they need to make the QB unable to move the ball past the line of scrimmage. That would take away a lot of hits they take

I think they can fix this without letting DTs flop onto qb with intent to break shoulder.

You don't have to ride them down.

Once they are falling let go, watch them fall.

Have you seen how athletic the Carson Wentz, Deshaun Watson, Pat Maholmes, and Josh Allens of the world are? You start doing that, and they're gonna spin-out of a million tackles. Look at how hard it's been to bring down Big Ben over the years.

Hell Eli won the Super Bowl on the helmet catch because the DL basically stopped and assumed the play would be ruled dead. You don't want that shite happening regularly.

This is getting out of control! The league needs to institute some type of accumulation rule for personal fouls. Dude already has 3 this season. He is a thug.

Still funny that the packers are getting screwed the most by the Rodgers rule

I do not find this funny.

All defenses around the league should just take a knee every drive and let the offense score. Take it to the NFL

Bingo.

Cam Newton comes to mind. You can’t exactly come at him half speed. He’s not going down without a solid form tackle and that is especially true once he takes off running

You know something is ridiculous when these ladies defending the call against a perfect form tackle sack are trying to explain how to do it. My favorite was “let him fall” or how about not wrap up Cam or Ben and just try to knock them down?! Neither of these guys have ever tackled anybody.

Can't tackle their legs
Can't touch them high
Can't throw them down
Can't hit them if they slide
Can't drive them to the ground
Can't land on them

So basically the QB should just wear a flag.

Roethlisberger too. There are some QB's who make a living off not going down easily and extending plays.

I don't know how you're supposed to sack those guys. Maybe just make it like spring games where you two hand touch the QB down. That's where it seems like we're headed.

And just now they are reporting that a Miami DL has torn his ACL because he was trying to NOT land on the QB and his leg spun weirdly causing it to tear.

Its ALL BS for these guys.

If the QB has already released the ball, I’m actually okay if the refs flag someone for “putting their weight” on top of the QB when falling to the ground.

But if the QB is still holding the ball, like this instance here, you can’t flag the defender for that. I mean how is it roughing the passer when the pass hadnt happened yet?

I love that Matthews gets to say the league is soft and he plays hard cause he is so tough. But how many a game is he getting tackled or blasted from out of nowhere? None.

Nobody is trying to or allowed to tackle him. You can't grab him or hold onto him. You can't even block him below the hips on certain plays. Yet he is mad cause he can't run through and jump on top of a defenseless, players. I'd love to see him try to take the punishment somebody like Brees or Newton take. This soft talk is BS..
