I listened to the entire podcast and in context he didn’t say anything crazy.
I wanted Joe to get Elon as high as a kite and then put him in the float chamber.
When Elon came out, we’d have these in 5 years:

It's no less crazy than believing that some dude in the clouds sent his kid down to earth to suffer just to prove a point.

Oddly enough, the simulation theory potentially solves a lot of the universes most challenging questions.

What does expanding your life mean?
Posted on 9/7/18 at 7:22 pm to cajuncarguy
Elon Musk like many smart experts who haven't taken the time to understand philosophy is out of his domain on this one.
The multiverse theory is so far from being real science and is so logically incoherent that it isn't taken seriously by most philosophers schooled in origins, including agnostics. It's also not scientifically testable in any sense, failing the very claim of a being the scientific perspective.
The infinite number of multiverses theory was a way to try to explain away the beginning of the universe, which is a big problem for atheists (not as much for agnostics - who take the shrugged shoulders approach to life).
The earlier poster who was making a silly caricature of the Christian God doesn't understand the God of the Bible. That God was never defined in the Bible as being "in the clouds".
At the end of the day you have to come to grips with our existence. We are here, and we implicitly understand that the world and our universe had a beginning. How did matter, energy and time itself come to be? What creature can make the laws of the universe itself? How limitless is the power of this being?

Take your life...whatever you've made, or hope to make of it, and do a long, over your head stretch, fingers reaching for the sky, do a sun salutation type of forward bend, until your fingers are on your toes. Take a deep breath while placing your fingers securely under your toes, then, keeping the fingers under the toes, slowly stand straight up. The stretching of the whole of your body skin, will "expand your life"....at least that's what my spirit guide told me.

He believes in the many worlds interpretation of quantum mechanics.
quote:
The Many-Worlds Interpretation (MWI) of quantum mechanics holds that there are many worlds which exist in parallel at the same space and time as our own. The existence of the other worlds makes it possible to remove randomness and action at a distance from quantum theory and thus from all physics.

Think about this
Every atom that makes up your body is part of the universe
So the universe is now aware of its own existence
What are the odds that the universe would 1) spring into existence by itself, and 2) develop self awareness by itself?
It just strikes me as so implausible

Believing we may be in a simulation has more to do with physics than weed. Look up conservation of information and black holes.

I love how you throw philosophy in as a freaking trump card. Wanna know some facts?
We are here, as far as we know.
The end.

quote:Besides the certainty of your statement, this isn’t actually a some completely fringe and/or dismissed idea. It’s too abstract for me to truly grasp, but so is the universe in general, let alone All of the theories in theoretical physics (wormholes, time dilation, etc). It’s more like we’re in a simulation controlled by someone who is tripping than someone must be tripping to think we’re in a simulation.
We are living in a simulation and not in “the” original timeline
