My cousin, T***y D**is.....

He came up from working class roots, and made and owns Parish Concrete in Saint Tammany Parish.

The other is my older brother; West Point grad many years ago, retired as a LTC (Infantry officer), did a lot of work as a "consultant" inside the beltway; his wife was also very successful in her own right, and he is now a multi-millionaire.

eta: forgot to add: the owner of an oilfield service company I used to work for was the former U.S. Ambassador to Iran before the Shah got overthrown in Iran....I've met and spent a good bit of time with him back in the day and he was pretty filthy rich...

P.S....strange question...but I'm drinking so I answered it.....

What’s strange is you edited your cousins name but mentioned the company he owns?

my uncle owns an oilfield company worth about 50 million. he's pretty down to earth. built it himself, he doesn't have a degree. is currently building a good portion of his own house because he likes working. i respect the hell out of him, i wouldn't want to have to go through what he did to build it

Your're correct. I stand busted...I just figured the casual observer wouldn't care, and the sleuths on here would easily be able to figure it out.

Also, I wanted at least some sort of "plausible deniability."

upvote for you.

That is the richest person you know?

I know of Gates, Bezos, Zuckerberg. I thought we were talking of people we know personally. The meaning of "rich" can very from person to person but considering the average income of a person in the United States is $25,000 a year then I think most people would consider someone to be rich if they make 10x that, maybe even 5x that.

This is a classic OT thread. There are roughly 560 billionaires in the US. In a country of 326,000,000. And we're up to what, 8 or 9 different people in this thread with a personal connection to one of them?

Some people even know multiple billionaires.

1) Glassman

A distant second would be Paul Tudor Jones or Fred Smith.

The man I worked for before he sold the company for 2 Billion dollars. Had another company he sold for 150 million a few years back. Had a couple of other companies he sold. Still has and runs one worth hundreds of millions. Part owner and chairman of the board of a very large commercial real estate company. Sits on the board of multiple fortune 500 companies. Used to be chairman of BOA. Always trying to get me to visit him. Really great guy.

Has a ranch in Montana measured in miles, not acres.

Don't know what he makes now, but it doesn't matter when you're worth as much as him.

People are certainly stretching the definition of the word “know” to it’s fullest extent

Friends own an Oil and Gas rental company, killing it right now.

They have around 120 pieces of equipment averaging $200.00 a day, half of the equipment is paid off

I could have gotten in this at the start but felt it was too risky :(

I wonder how many more guys "worth 9 figures, but drives a busted arse truck, lives in a modest home and splurges by going to outback instead of golden corral " we'll get in this thread.

Know a guy that made millions in the oil patch, lost it all three times. One day riding with him down to Grand Isle, this guy was on the cell phone for the two hour drive taking care of buz.

Know some more down In New Orleans, but can't say how they made their money nor what family they belong to.

A guy I went to high school with founded the company that came up with the yellow first down lines we see on every televised football game. They also did the k-zone we see on televised MBL games. Not sure what he makes, but it has to be a bundle.

Another guy I went to high school with opening an engineering firm and proceeded to invent a bunch of stuff for NASA and the space shuttle. He is supposedly making many millions per year.

I thought it was a little strange we have so many billionaires.

My co-worker thought our owner of our previous company was a billionaire. He sold the business for $300 mil. Not chump change but not close to a billion. And he didn’t own the company 100%.
