What kind of consequences were you dishing out?

It can be, it can also be pretty accurate too, no?

So that proves it, that sample size of 5 proves it all wrong?

Just as effective as your cherry-picking.

It is.

Let's start over.

Tell everyone what you think reasoning is.

You need the short term fix to supplement the long term lessons. This is true in all facets of life where a "triage" of sorts ends the immediate issue while full remediation is implemented over a period of time. As far as I can tell, nobody has indicated that their only parenting/discipline tactic is spanking. Most seem to use it sparingly in certain situations.

Seems like many people in here are parenting out of a book instead of the real world, or using a hyperbolic interpretation of other posts to elevate themselves as parents.

"spanking is lazy" is a lazy response. It assumes someone does nothing but spank as a form of discipline. That's rarely the case, but it makes the person feel better about themselves by assuming that.

So you can't reason with a child.

But you can spank because if-then.

If-then is reasoning.

But again, you can't reason with a child.

Got it!

No, but until I see the methodology of that study, I'm skeptical.

When considering the post psychological outcomes of early childhood discipline methods, there are WAY too many variables to state for fact that spanking is the cause. That's why they say there seems to be a correlation.

There could just as easily be a correlation with anything number of other things.

Food's here. I'll be back later. Explain those two concepts and why you think they're related and I'll check your work when I get back.

You have to do more than just fuss. They probably interpret that as empty, emotional threats.

I tell them if they don't listen to me they will end up failing school, going to jail, living on the streets, and end up sold to a sex trafficking ring.

no thanks, you have been wrong enough, no need to.

You may need to come back after lunch and explain how if-then is reasoning, spanking works because if-then. But kids can't reason.
