Oral maxillofacial surgeons can do wonders
LSU Shreveport has a really good one in Dr Ghali.
The process of doing something like that takes a long time and many surgeries. Usually they want the pt to have counseling before they go through all that to make sure they can handle all that they will go through and that when the surgeries are complete the patient won’t do it all over again

I was fascinated by this article.
1) It was very disturbing to imagine this lady waking up every day suffering from an impulsive decision and surviving the outcome, pain and regret. No parent would ever fathom this hell as their normality.
2) This is extremely important work being done. I do not agree with the idea she is less deserving because of her suicide attempt. Many injured people will benefit from the opportunity that her situation provided to surgeons and researchers. This woman’s treatment was funded by the Department of Defense because the lessons learned will benefit disfigured combat veterans.
3) Science is awesome.

Jesus that was depressing. She was such a pretty girl

maybe... but i can promise you, she's never been prettier, to her family, than she is now...

Her beauty gave her no redemption or relief from her thoughts during the moment she was compelled to pull the trigger. Tortured souls all have the same stuffing.
If her neurological injuries prevent her from remembering why she was determined to kill herself she’s already better off.

I don't know about this. I mean I'm happy for her parents that still have their little girl alive, but I don't know how her quality of life will be after the surgery. She was gorgeous and could have had any guy she wanted. In my opinion, she will really hate her herself the rest of her life. I would've rather been successful in suicide.

I bet almost all families would take the failed disfigured suicide survivor to the successful any day. Just to have the chance to speak with them instead of living with the unanswered question of why?

that is suicidal?
maybe she isn't suicidal anymore?
we should just ignore any of her needs since she once tried to kill herself, right?

I watched a NatGeo video about her yesterday, and what stood out to me was how she said she never got to spend this much time with her parents before and that she was greatful for a second chance at life. The fact that she has withstood and persevered through all of the pain, surgeries, therapy, and recovery efforts, to me, demonstrates her newfound will to live, and like somebody else said, I hope she can use her second chance to help others who are struggling with depression and suicidal thoughts.

This is an example of why women generally shoot themselves in the chest. When they frick it up they just get bigger tits.

There will luckily be a greta amount of improvement over time (baring infection and rejection) because most of that puffiness is still inflammation id imagine. Itll take a long time to go down but im sure itll be an incredible recovery when it does.

I'm not trying to be an a-hole but some of those pictures are what nightmares are made of. There is a picture of the face just straight up laying on the table.

Jeez she was a really pretty girl before she pulled that trigger. This is so sad, I couldn't imagine if one of my children did this to themselves.

This. Doubt they are done. The biggest problem is reconstruction the destroyed facial structure underneath. I'd like to see how this progresses over the next several years.

I am not trying to be critical, but what was the reason for performing a face transplant for a person that is suicidal?
I would imagine they did an extensive psych evaluation before agreeing for her to be a candidate.
Also...just because she was suicidal once...doesn't mean she will always be.
Maybe she now has a better appreciation of life in general.

I saw at the end of the article that she wants to go to college and pursue a career as a counselor.
