In the age of Twitter, it really does seem like true sports journalism has died. But the The Athletic seems like a place that can bring it back. Anyone else use it? Is it worth it?

I hate to pay for something, but reddit and TD just aren't enough. I miss the days of reading great pieces on SI and even ESPN.

A couple of the local (sports) radio personalities in DFW write articles for it, they talk it up but consider the source.

The few articles I've read were good but I'm not paying for it.

Was going to pull the trigger until the brought in the two worst writers at the Atlanta Journal Constitution. That made it an easy pass.

i subscribe. they just expanded their soccer coverage. it's been fantastic lately. also they are adding more college football writers at an insane pace. i paid like 30 bucks for the whole year. worth it for good content and no ads/pop up vidoes. SI's site has become unusable lately with their ads.

Yes, it's worth it. Wait for a Holiday and they usually run like half off deals that make it very worth it.

Best coverage in sports.

Subscribed and enjoy very much. Only complaint is no LSU or New Orleans coverage yet, but I'm sure they'll add soon.

Think they're running a special with their recently rolled out fantasy content right now.

I regret to say that I'm not at this time an Athletic supporter.

I subscribe and it is definitely worth it. Not only writers from your local area, but also nation wide.
I will renew next year as well.

Similar threads seem to pop up every few weeks, and the responses are always the same.

Some people refuse to pay for news or subscriptions and they answer no, it’s not worth it.

Those who do subscribe all seem to have high praise for The Athletic.

I was in the former category for a long time, but The Athletic had enough to entice me to pull the trigger a few months ago. Since then, they have continued to expand and hire writers.

Another poster mentioned they don’t have any NOLA or LSU dedicated writers, so it might not be worth it for some posters on this board.

I only bought in because the coverage of Atlanta is now pretty good, but honestly I'll probably subscribe for as long as they're the antithesis of the ESPN model of sports journalism.

No click bait bullshite, no unnecessary videos that don't actually say anything, no journalism where the journalist is the star of the story, no woke-obsession, no reckless sensationalism that values cultural shock over actual sports news, etc.
