This year has been the exception, but most years summertime is when you want to be in the gulf for numbers, fall is when you want to be in the gulf for size

Most years, there’s really not a “bad” time for tuna in the GOM. However, this year I’m not sure there’s gonna be a good time for tuna fishing and I hope to God I’m wrong, but I think the trawl boats are gonna be slow this year. If that’s the case, this whole year will have been the worst tuna fishing for many, many fishermen.

If your fine with the blacks try the shrimp boats on the way out. You may not have to ride all the way out there.

i heard the tuna fishing has been slow. we will head out of cypremort point friday. probable troll for marlin along the ledge between gc 52 over to baldpate/salsa/enchilada and the picket fence, then drop for groupers at night. Our last trip out we went to constitution and caught 3 yellowfins. We usually catch at least 10.

I had 2 diamond jigs come up hookless this weekend when reeling a fish in. So lesson learned to replace the split rings to heavier duty ones before using them.

We fished to the east on Thursday and Friday, all the other boats went West. We had one tuna about 90 lbs. that was the only
tuna bite of the trip. We caught a 6 man limit of AJ's a couple of scamp and 3 dolphin on the first day. Bait was easy to come buy on day one, day 2 we could not find small baits anywhere we went, only bigger hard tails for AJ bait. We limited AJ's again Friday with a couple of stud scamps as well. No tuna were seen Friday but Thursday we saw plenty crushing bait on top just couldn't get them to eat what we were putting out. From what I saw the boats that fished to the west didn't have much of anything to clean. I saw one boat had 4 yellas Friday and another had a couple of black fin and an escolar.

Well... We went out Friday afternoon and slept at a rig about 20 miles from Medusa because the waves were pretty rough and driving at night is a pain in the arse. We caught a couple AJs and some ARS. We woke up around 5 and made the decision to go to Medusa. We caught 10 Blackfin in about an hour then a storm came. It was like 4-6ft seas so we limped back in. My back is still hurtin from the ride.

How deep did you catch the scamp? And on what?
