Going to try a new burger place that had just opened in town. McDonald's.

Or, stopping on the way to my grandparents' house in St. Bernard at that new chicken place that just opened up last Thursday in Arabi named Popeyes.

ETA: And yes kids - that was the very first Popeyes.

I remember the BMG ones having their info in the square place, instead of a barcode.

Going to Schweggmann's with your mom on a Saturday to do big grocery shopping (at LEAST two full carts for less than $100) and seeing those cashiers ring up all those groceries in about two minutes on one of these bad boys --

And there was no such thing as plastic bags. This was your only "choice" --

And, of course you saved them because they doubled as your garbage bags.

In 1977 minimum wage was $2.30. A new f-150 was about $4k. You could buy this truck new for less than 1 years wages (Of full time, minimum wage).

This means a new f-150 should be about $15k today. Kids will never see that.

The thrill of sneaking into the girl next door's house and making out with her and not getting caught by her dad who would kill you on sight. Nowadays the Mom would be the one wanting to have sex.

Getting a big .5L root beer or cream soda for 50 cents. Seven of them would be $3.50.

Having to read Shakespeare's sonnets or learn the Socratic method. Having to stand up in front of the entire class and recite the Preamble or Gettysburg Address.

That big yellow Sony Walkman that the DARE people would give you for pledging to be drug free.

Kickass Comics for a couple of bucks

911 page from Mom at 1:00 am when you’re blitzed at a frat party and can’t find a quarter, much less a pay phone

Only being able to watch cartoons on Saturday.

Laser disk movies and Betamax

Jolt cola

Having to stay outside on the weekends and only come in to eat or to use the bathroom.

Knowing that when the streetlights came on, it was time to come home.

Blowing stuff up with cherry bombs and M-80's. An M-80 would lay a cheap mailbox open like it was made of cardboard.

Is riding your bike around your neighborhood still a thing? I currently live on the same road I use to ride up and down constantly.
