I've always really like Eight Men Out. Not sure if it's underrated, but it's not talked about as much as a lot of baseball movies.

Fantastic movie and I agree, it kind of gets lost in the shuffle of Field of Dreams, Bull Durham and others.

That movie is a reverse Gung-Ho...I mean the culture clashes are taken right from Gung-Ho.

But it's such a good movie and it stars Costner, you'd figure it would be more popular.

It's really, really, good. Some of Costner's best work.

Bad News Bears is a classic and not underrated at all.

Mr. Baseball is awesome and a great answer.

Diggstown. It’s got Chappy from Iron Eagle in it. Both movies are underrated.

What baseball movie does the best in showing the game the best or most realistically? I would say either "for the love of the game" or "major league"..

In terms of the actual gameplay, I think that Little Big League is pretty decent.

Fun Fact:

This was filmed in the gym of my former Junior High School. (Was the town's high school at the time of filming).

That is an incredible documentary. That coach is a hell of a guy to start coaching that year without a guarantee of getting paid.

Slap Shot is almost always included in best sports movie lists.

Yep, on the website: Best Sports Movies Ever, it's #24.

quote:

24. Slap Shot ( 1977, Directed by George Roy Hill)

A hockey team, which is a perennial loser and in financial trouble due to mill closings in the town, is due to be folded at season's end. Through the course of regular business, the team picks up the Hanson Brothers, violent goons with child-like mentalities.

Friday Night Lights is #26.

quote:

26. Friday Night Lights (2004, Directed by Peter Berg)

Football is BIG in Texas and the Odessa Permian Panthers play in a 19,032 seat stadium. The stadium has been ranked as one of the Top 10 high school venues by USA Today.

I Googled "best sports movies", and both DVD covers are at the top of the first page of my search.

When I read the subject, I thought about movies like Dogtown and Z-Boys (2001), Vision Quest 1985, Girlfight (2000), Heaven Can Wait (1978), Diggstown (1992), and others that might not be in most people's top 50.
