I emailed Denise Marcelle about the interim role and expressed my interest. She appointed Cole, which she has the right to do, but had the gall to say no one even reached out to her about the role so she had to go find someone.

I also tried to gain that position

No, it’s for those who are put in charge of running the new city to be able to give government contracts to their own “select”peeps. It has nothing to do with saving the taxpayer money. Period.

Somebody gets it!!!!

The St George crowd can lobby that it’s about taking back control of our community. But to say it will save money is disingenuous.

I’m guessing your inquiry fell on deaf ears?

She half arse offered it to me, but we both knew she was kidding and that it was going to go to someone else. Plus, I don;t have the time or patience to deal with the BS that is the Metro Council

The four are now saying Amoroso set the precedent when filling Denise Marcelle's seat a couple years ago:
quote:

In 2016, a vacancy was created when former Metro Councilwoman C. Denise Marcelle won a seat at the state Legislature. At the time, Amoroso nominated Sandy Lemoine, a white Republican, to fill the seat in a majority African-American Democratic district. Marcelle’s nomination, LaMont Cole, was appointed instead.

That bit of history was highlighted in an anonymous email sent to local media outlets early this morning. The email suggests Amoroso did not follow the tradition of honoring the wishes of the previous council member when appointing a temporary replacement, so why should the Democratic council members follow tradition in appointing Amoroso’s successor?

Councilwoman Tara Wicker—the only Democrat who is not participating in the abstention—says she plans to follow tradition in the appointment of Amoroso’s replacement and will support Denise Amoroso.

“My only response is always two wrongs don’t make a right,” Wicker says, referring to Buddy Amoroso’s 2016 recommendation for Marcelle’s vacant seat. “It was wrong if Buddy broke tradition, and it’s still wrong for us to do it.”

Good on Tara, once again.

a. Buddy may have nominated someone else, but that doesn't mean that nominee had a shot. it could have been a pre-arranged sacrifice

b. the 4 are welcome to nominate somebody else all they want. that's the precedent. Buddy didn't coordinate a mass abstention to try to have the governor appoint the successor

a little distinction should also be drawn between filling a vacancy due to leaving office for another position and death of the incumbent. Two traditions being presented aren't mutually exclusive.

True. Also, Buddy didn’t threaten to abstain or organize a voting bloc to get his chosen candidate in place.

Would really be nice if she was mayor rather than Broome.

Last I heard, Tara is term limited, so I'm curious to see where she goes from here.

this would be a really smart, forward-thinking play to get white support

Tara has already been called out by Gravy for saying she will not go along with Chauna and the other 3 racists.

Yeah... so pretty much every state has racist politicians who only care about skin color... and politicians who will do whatever is necessary to get a "win"

Cantrell is knocking heads around right now. Now... it may turn out that the replacements are even worse, but she's taking a baseball bat to city hall right now, and even calling out, in an indirect way, ole Mitchy.

I guess Gravy doesn’t care that he got called out by the Advocate for his bullshite.

When the Advocate calls out lefties for being pieces of shite, it’s serious.

Wicker pointed out that there’s no guarantee that the governor’s administration would appoint a Democrat to the seat in Amoroso’s absence

JBE's gonna be up for re-election soon as well. If he were to appoint a liberal Dem to that seat... that stink would be all over him as well. And it's an appointment... so really... how much distance are you going to get out of it. 6 months? A year?

He still likes to act like he's a moderate. Pulling this stunt would close the book on that chapter... and cost him votes statewide.

It’s not getting there. The other 7 are on board appointing his wife until the March election which she’s said she won’t run.

I always figured his absences were dictated by Get Gordon. Gordon is a big JBE supporter. Threw a big trial lawyer fundraiser for JBE before the election at that holiday party supply store he built by the interstate.

Reminder. Also employeed by Get Gordon: C. Denise Marcel. “Community Relations”
