Even the British were more likely to offer freedom to blacks than the colonists.

Let’s not give the British too much credit. They kind of got the ball rolling on the whole Atlantic slave trade.

regardless of the validity of the reason for having issues with the history of the country and the wrongs that were done if i could not find a way to celebrate what is right about it i truly believe i would leave, go somewhere you could be proud.
Scruffy agrees with this.

independence day was a day to celebrate in gaining independence from the Brits. But soon after, my ancestors had to deal with a new harsh reality.

Ok, but this quote from your original post implies that slavery began after July 4, 1776, and that, quite obviously, is false. That was the reason for my question.

I do focus on the positives. In this country in the present time I have a lot of great opportunities. In the past, that would not be the case. Is that offensive for me to say?

But the 4th is all about celebrating that time.
No, the fourth is about celebrating the American Revolution. It is not about “celebrating that time”.

That is like saying that celebrating VE or VJ Day is celebrating the time when the USA was still segregated.

That makes no sense.

Stop living in the past and judging white people on things their ancestors did in a time where morals and the world were completely different.

And don’t forget, Black people sold other black people into slavery in the first place.

I don't judge white people based off of things their ancestors did. I base their ancestors based off of what they themselves did personally.

Also, yes I am fully aware of that fact. Why are people constantly bringing up that Africans sold other Africans into slavery. I know that, everyone knows that. That doesnt change anything. They were terrible people too.

Sure doesn't seem like it with the constant "blame whitey for everything" mentality that is fairly popular these days.

No, it isn’t offensive, but it is fairly pointless.

Look, if you want to point out injustices in modern day America, Scruffy will go right there with you, but pointing out injustices 242 years ago is, frankly, dumb.

Stay Woke....Titus Cornelius, also known as Titus, Tye, and famously as Colonel Tye (c.?1753 – 1780), was a slave of African descent in the Province of New Jersey who fought as a Black Loyalist during the American Revolutionary War; he was known for his leadership and fighting skills.

Perhaps celebrate the founding of the country that has become far and away the best country on earth for black people to find prosperity?

And my family was still back in Germany mostly and would remain so for another 100 years. And yet, as an American born in 1970 and living in 2018, I can look back at how monumental July 4, 1776 was to my ultimate future...and yours. Someone doesn't want to celebrate it, fine...same goes for any holiday. Talking shite about it as if to do otherwise makes one an Uncle Tom is simply idiotic.

I agree with that statement. Again, I already said I personally celebrate the 4th. I was just explaining why I understand some don't. Plus anyone who would call someone an Uncle Tom for celebrating the 4th is a complete retard.

I just don't understand why when someone says they dislike something about this country, or critiques it in some way. To some that equals them saying I hate America and absolutely everything about the country.

So, there is no point in studying or knowing history, in your opinion?

True enough. I know people like that. They are stupid. I am not of those people who blame whitey for everything.
