Were all on the same team, who was the best back?
Posted on 6/26/18 at 8:36 am to Hankstarr74
Faulk was the best player bc he was so great in all aspects, running, receiving, and STs
Collins was the best runner
RM was a good not great all around back
KC was just a good back but clearly behind the other 3.

Faulk was a legend.
Mealey and The Diesel were above average.

Most talent and success? FAULK.
Most wasted talent? COLLINS

Faulk... Was it the bowl game? but almost single handily beat Notre Dame when everyone else was laying an egg.

Give me Kevin Faulk, and it is not even close. Cecil Collins certainly had the potential to be up there with the most talented backs in LSU history, but that is speculation at this point. Instead, through his own fault, he became the biggest waste of talent in LSU history and maybe in the history of college football.

For a short stretch running behind Alan Faneca, Collins was the most dominant running back to ever wear purple and gold.

Faulk is the greatest RB in the history of LSU football.

Cecil was one of the best backs I've ever seen, however participation counts and that is why Kevin Faulk is hands down the best of the bunch. That doesn't even consider what Kevin Faulk meant to LSU off the field, and by that I'm talking about his signing with LSU put us back on the map of relevance.

Based on pure, straight up ability? I’d say Collins. And that’s not to take away from Kevin Faulk’s greatness either, it just that Collins has always left me with that “what if” feeling. All around skills and productivity you obviously go with Faulk. As others have said Cecil Collins was probably the the biggest waste of talent in the history of LSU football. Mealy was the classic jack of all trades, master of none. He had solid all around skills but never was great at one thing so I can’t compare him to Diesel and KF. Cleveland had talent as well but was clearly behind the other 3

Faulk Collins was a beast but couldn’t behave

Collins was the best overall talent I’ve seen.

Cecil Collins, when his mind was right, was at least as good as Leonard Fournette. He COULD have been the greatest back in LSU history, since he played at a time when backs stayed all 4 years. As it played out, he was only present for a very short time, and he wasn't ever right afterwards.
Kevin Faulk was a lot more like Alvin Kamara (NFL Saints version), an explosive and multi-faceted player with trememdous intangibles (as Kamara SEEMS to be showing with the Saints). By far the better career.
Rondell Mealey was a very good back with potential. Reminds me of Jeremy Hill. Didn't have Hill's stats, but Mealey made a ton of phenomenal 3 yd runs, that should have been 3 yd losses. If he had a good line here, he'd have a 1000 yd season.

Faulk.
He was the best runningback that ever played for LSU. Arguably one of the best players to play for LSU, as well.
End of thread.

Faulk was very talented. He stayed 4 years and put up fantastic numbers.
Based on the small sample, Collins was the most talented RB I’ve ever seen in P&G until Fournette. But in football, as in life, talent is meaningless without discipline.

Those who are discounting Cecil Collins obviously never saw him play.
The 3-4 games Collins played were as good or better than any 3-4 game stretch that fournette ever played

Cecil "the Diesel" Collins was the best RB LSU ever had.
Too bad Vandy still used Astroturf in 1997.
Too bad he got all rapey in 1998.

Depends on who was running behind Tommy Banks.
