New Study on Rising Suicide Rates Suggests Capitalism Is Quite Literally Killing Us

A study released late last week showed that suicide rates have risen significantly across the country. The culprit appears to be capitalism.
It’s largely assumed that people who decide to kill themselves are suffering from a mental illness. Mental Health America estimates that 30 to 70 percent of Americans who end their own lives are suffering from either severe depression or bipolar disorder. However, according to a study conducted by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), 54 percent of Americans who committed suicide in 27 states in 2015 had no known mental health condition.

When the troubling rise in American suicide rates is taken in context with the relentless redistribution of wealth from the bottom 90 percent to the top 1 percent that took place over the same period, the culprit behind the wave of suicides is abundantly clear. Working-class Americans — when faced with rapidly increasing costs of living and stagnant wages — are forced to work longer hours just to stay afloat. Tragically, for thousands of financially unstable Americans, the stress of providing for their household amidst crushing student debt, housing prices, and healthcare costs eventually became too much to bear.

Did suicide happen in the USSR? No. Didn’t think so.
If you did, the KGB would kill you.

Social media is the real issue. Everyone sees snipits of people’s best times and wonder why they aren’t living life like _______.
They get depressed and yea.

All these frickers promote communism and socialism, haven’t they ever opened a history book? That shite doesn’t work.

And they often have the decency to murder you before you can commit suicide. Good looking out, communism.

Isn't that the talking point?
Free market will take care of it...even the weak minded.

Capitalism has dragged more people out of poverty than any system in world history. Go ask a millennial in China on how much better their lives were than their parents thanks to a Capitalist market. Let's assume that rising suicide rates are because of Capitalism. Without capitalism, we would still be battling smallpox and polio. So even if this is right, which it is not, More people are alive now thanks to the miracle of capitalism.
And it's social media that is the cause of it, not capitalism.

If you are suggesting the United States of America should change its government from democracy to communism.....GO frick YOURSELF!!
Too many of my friends died for Liberty. Human corruption is the exact reason Communism can never work on a national or global scale.
Go back to your little government class or go live on an island of 50 hippies and enjoy your little party.
Otherwise, STFU!
Problem with it? Meet me at sonic. You better check my knuckles first though.

To be honest, suicide seems to be a privilege to the well off. Suicide is basically unheard of in Africa for instance. So maybe Capitalism is increasing suicide rates, and even if it is, the benefits far outweigh the negatives.

I am not trying to disparage people who come from these struggling rural and manufacturing communities....but when you drive through these places, you don't get the impression that the people are working. Welfare dependency is sky high.
There are 6 MILLION job openings in America and wages are increasing.
There is opportunity. It just requires effort to take advantage of it.

It’s gonna take a couple centuries for the capitalism related suicides to match the socialist/communist related murders

More importantly, does anyone believe that dictator/communist run nations will tell the truth about their suicide rates?
I bet we have no real numbers for Russia, China and Korea for starters.

That’s a pretty important qualifier.
