Uh... yes. Maintaining your land and animals is hobby and a chore. Not work.

Congrats. Want a cookie? So are you gonna pay that 50% tax rate this year or no?

On a similar note, Bernie's income topped $1M for the second straight year. I wonder if he has "re-distributed" his wealth.

Why should anyone have to redistribute their wealth? This is a red herring. Besides, $1.0m per year is not the type of income I'm talking about.

I suspect that some of Bernie's income is capital gains which has a lower tax rate.

You literally said anyone making $1M or more in this thread should be taxed at 90% according to you. Similarly to your train of thought, Bernie ran on taxing the rich. In his own plan, capital gains was to be taxed at the same rate as regular salary and wages. With his tax plan if you made more than $250,000 (he now makes 4 times that), should be taxed at 50%...soooo I wonder if he is willing to pay $500k in taxes willingly.

So I take it you won’t be firing your CPA and won’t be paying more than the bare minimum in taxes next year?

It’s okay to admit it. We have a CPA who does my families taxes and deals with all of our companies and holdings to ensure we pay as little as possible. That’s what we pay him for.

But I’m not here calling for astronomical tax hikes on the rich all the while utilizing a CPA to pay as little as possible

She is evading that question more than Hillary admitting she lost to Trump because she is a terrible, terrible person.

Everyone knows that's work. It is what ranchers and farmers do.

Everyone also knows she is talking about the actual ridiculously rich, like the generational rich. Those people aren't paying taxes on the precious metals, art, and stocks they own. She is talking about wealth that was not earned by someone alive. That tax rate you quote won't redistribute anything of consequence to the elite. It only helps prevent new blood from reaching elite status.

Maintaining your own land that you use for pleasure isn’t work. It’s a hobby. When I go up to my land and prep for hunting season, I’m prepping for my hobby. I’m not working.

If I’m getting paid to maintain someone else’s property, then I’m working.

There is a little hypocrisy in my position.

I do get hit with a lot of property taxes on my house, and there is nothing a CPA can do about it.

It sounds like she wants a way to lessen them in this scenario so I'm not sure the problem.

There’s a frick ton of hypocrisy in your position.

You are calling for tax hikes on the rich. Yet you utilize a CPA to pay as little as legally possible.

If you were truly in support of these higher taxes, you wouldn’t utilize a CPA to pay a second little tax as possible. Rather, you would pay the full amount you owe or you would pay more than what you owe.

Then why doesn’t she voluntarily pay more in taxes? If you’re going to call for higher tax brackets for the rich, you should lead by example. Not utilize a CPA to ensure you’re paying as little as possible.

I am not a trust fund baby. Some of my income is from a lawsuit that was settled when I was little.

Let's talk about what rule should apply to society in general, rather talking about someone volunteering.

The CPA makes sure that I pay the correct amount of tax.
