Coacheson the hot seat

I just looked at the record of the legendary Cholly Mac's last six seasons at LSU:

1974- 5-5-1
1975- 4-7
1976- 6-4-1
1977- 8-4
1978- 8-4
1979- 7-5

And he was widely regarded as the greatest coach in LSU history!

All you have to do is look at the last 2/3rds of the 2016 season to see that. Run to pass ratio was much closer with total yards per play almost double. We'll see, but i would believe with Ensmingers past QB mentality, along with borrow and the number of receivers we have, his offense will be well balanced with pass and run and a yardage per play much better that anything Miles did here at LSU.

So many of you with your eyeballs tests. Show me the stats where E's offense in 2016 shows up as compared to some of Mile's offenses (show me O's 2017 for kicks while you're at it - I know, I know, that's Canada's fault).

That was not Ensminger's offense. His playcalling was much different but the system had already been installed by Cameron.

If you think LSU football prior to and during the Cholly Mac era is in anyway comparable to LSU currently, I don’t know what to tell you.

The Cholly Mac era standard is NOT the current LSU standard. Otherwise we’d still have Les, and we’d be worshiping him.

I hear you, but sometimes it's far better for the overall program to lose more (in the short term) so we can get rid of a clearly bad coach, so we can quickly hire a better one to get us back on track.

For example, if LSU is 5-4 heading into our last 3 games against Arky, Rice, and A&M, I'd argue it's far, far better for us to lose those and finish 5-7 (and hopefully fire O) than win out, finish 8-4 (which is still crappy) and keep O around.

Johnny Jones is a great recent example. His complete implosion allowed us to fire him and hire Will Wade - and look at us now.

Curley is another example. 4 bad years, hire DiNardo, and he turned us around (until Lou Tepper dragged him down). But even that allowed us to hire Saban.

In short, I'd argue that wanting LSU to win every single game in every single circumstance is short-sighted. It's the long-term health of the program that we should be rooting for, and I'm afraid we're headed down the wrong path.

But again, I hope we go 15-0 this year.

no he wasn't. Mac had a long tenure, which buys him some respect, but he only had a few good years. Most of it was mediocre (that word again) and he couldn't beat Bama.

well I'm (partially) in this camp. But with a big caveat.

I want LSU to go 15-0 every year and I'll be rooting like hell for that this year. Of course, that's pretty unrealistic so I'll be happy if we're seriously in the mix for getting to Atlanta.

But...... if we're going to have a 7-5 or 6-6 year, I suspect that will harm recruiting and we'll be looking at those types of years for the forseeable future.

If that's the case, then I'd rather we go 4-8 so the O era can end more quickly, which will allow us to right the ship more quickly. You know, just like Johnny Jones.

Hard to really disagree with any of this.

He will have LSU's best offensive line since 2011

I think that remains to be seen. Consider this:

Most experienced SEC offensive lines

Note: The number in parentheses is the ranking among all FBS teams.
1.Florida (9)
2.Alabama (13)
3.Ole Miss (15)
4.Vanderbilt (25)
5.Missouri (29)
6.Texas A&M (30)
7.Arkansas (51)
8.Mississippi State (52)
9.South Carolina (62)
10.Georgia (64)
11.Kentucky (80)
12.Tennessee (95)
13.Auburn (114)
14.LSU (119)

The talent may be there, but number of starts is one of the lowest in CFB.

No chance he is still coach in 2019 if LSU goes 3-9. Zero. Zilch. Nada.

That may be the case but there is no way in hell Alleva will Fire O.

Put yourself in Allevas shoes here:

O is mediocre (7-5 or worse) Do you:

Fire O and cost LSU another monster buyout, that you negotiated.

or

Hang onto him and hope he eventually wins.

You think he could go to the board and say “Hey guys I need another 5 mil buyout for another botched coaching hire”

Alleva isn’t going to fire O. It’s not going to happen.

Are you seriously referencing a record from 40 years ago to prove that O needs time?

Here’s some records for you

2009 - 9-4
2010- 11-2
2011- 13-1
2012- 10-3
2013- 10-3
2014- 8-5
2015- 9-3 (should be 10-3)

2016- Depends on who you ask who gets credit for this season

2017- 9-4
2018- ??

So either he wins 9 games or the program is declining under O.

I love the fans like you that just “Want to wait and see what happens”

You, you are the reason why we could slide back to the 90s.

Zero points against bama, couldn't get the rb on the rt page against Florida.

$5 mil is nothing in terms of what is lost annually when LSU has a bad football team.

When people start lobbing personal attacks at the guy’s appearance, voice, and stalk every thread about him and/or Ponamsky, it certaintly appears like a personal vendetta, wouldn’t you say?

There have been posters on this board saying that want LSU to lose so he will get fired more quickly.

This happened to Les. So I guess we shouldn't have fired him because people hated him and personally attacked him and his family, which gets you the banhammer on this site, but they still did it.

I agree with you 1000%. My point is that Alleva won’t pull the trigger. Ever.

He knows firing O is basically firing himself.

I'd imagine you'd see something similar to what you saw at Nebraska...alleva out first, new AD comes for O next
