Apparently the US Navy has forgot how to sail

This is both troubling and pathetic. What the hell has happened to us? We’re supposed to be the greatest naval power in history.
Troubling US Navy review finds widespread shortfalls in basic seamanship

WASHINGTON — A three-month internal review conducted by senior U.S. surface fleet leaders found some or significant concerns with the ship handling skills of nearly 85 percent of its junior officers, and that many struggled to react decisively to extricate their ship from danger when there was an immediate risk of collision, according to an internal message obtained by Defense News.
Led by the Surface Warfare Officer School, officer of the deck competency checks were conducted on a random selection of OOD-qualified first-tour division officers (the newest officers in the fleet) in underway bridge navigation simulators fleet-wide between January and March. Of the 164 officers who were evaluated, only 27 passed with “no concerns.” Another 108 completed with “some concerns,” and 29 had “significant concerns,” according to the message, which was released by the Navy’s top surface warfare officer Vice Adm. Richard Brown.

They think they are all going to be seals and don't need to know that shite.

Look at the quality of recruits they are getting these days.

We also seem to have forgotten how to fly.

I am guessing the test was given in response to the rash of ships running into things and I guess the results explain how that happened?

I know several young Navy officers. This article doesn't take into account the knowledge that these men have that past officers didn't. They are dealing with issues of sexual harassment and diversity that the older generations didn't know anything about.

We are still the greatest naval power in human history. Headline grabbing reviews like this are concerning but also help to remove complacency.
The Air Force faced similar circumstance with their nuclear missile crews.

One reason is they've severely cut back on the training received in SWO School. It's basically nothing now.

correct. There have been several collisions that made headlines. This is the Navy reviewing their training standards in response to those incidents.

Because that's SO much more important that knowing how to you know... sail... when you are in the Navy.

Their best sailers have moved to cruise ships.

Once the USN has more Lesbians in leadership positions, this won't appear so bad.

Nautical Wheelers, who call themselves Sailors...

Didn’t all the ships colliding recently reflect that?

"We prepare for the last war we fought in"
This is not surprising at all. The recent conflicts have been fought against nothing but home grown insurgencies with 0 naval power. This coupled with the fact that the military has become a glorified welfare system has degenerated pretty much all aspects of our military.

No time for that shite, We gotta get this sensitivity training stepped up and make sure the mental defectives can pee and shite where ever they damn well feel like it on any given day. You know, Important Naval business.
