Oceans 8 reviews: It's not looking good.

And no, I'm not happy about it. Presumptuous homos. I need for at least one of these to be good and do well so they realize that woke-ness has no bearing on box office. Good big-budget movies do well. Bad ones don't. At this point, I think the activism is set up in advance to simply be an excuse for failure, shouted out by people who have no creativity. It's the only way they can keep getting jobs, and keep from admitting to themselves that they suck.
Chicago Tribune Michael Phillips
It’s smooth, and far from inept. But it isn’t much fun. That’s all you want from a certain kind of heist picture, isn’t it? Fun?
The Hollywood Reporter David Rooney
This is a self-satisfied exercise that's only occasionally as much fun as it thinks it is.
The Guardian Benjamin Lee
The lifeless direction, the unrefined script, the underwhelming cameos, the distinct lack of fizz – there’s a slapdash nature to the assembly of Ocean’s 8 that makes it feel like the result of a rushed, often careless process. It’s made watchable thanks to the cast but star power alone cannot mask creative inadequacy. Stealing a diamond necklace is bad but wasting an opportunity like this is unforgivable.
To be fair, "the bible" didn't hate it.
Variety Owen Gleiberman
The heist is fun and convincing without being dazzling, and some of the most amusing stuff in the film is just character comedy.
And some of your more "woke" publications super loved it.
Vox Alex Abad-Santos (hyphen-guy, YES!)
Ocean’s 8, at its most endearing, is a slick, glamorous romp that makes you yearn for three more hours with its impossibly charismatic crew.
but still only gave it a 70. The best score so far is an 89, but even it admits to the film's shortcomings.
IGN (who?) William Bibbiani
Ocean’s 8 is the most satisfying installment in the franchise. The all-star cast is impeccable, the shift in focus yields sharp insights, and the heist itself is wily and enjoyable. What the film lacks in suspense it makes up for in style, and that style has undeniable substance.
Total score so far is 59, but it's only based on 23 reviews. I'll see it just for the support. Of all the female adaptation concepts, this one actually seemed like a good idea, especially with this cast. I'm with the Guardian guy, though. What a wasted opportunity.

this is what I've taken from the previews...they're trying to market it as cool and fun but the corresponding clips don't really vibe with it.

The general feeling I get from the reviews is that it isn't great but it isn't bad. It doesn't overwhelm or underwhelm. It just...whelms.

i got free tickets so i'll be there to check it out. i'll report back my findings.

That dude used his thesaurus for fluff up this review.
And I really find it hard to believe he would genuinely YEARN to see three more hours of those characters on screen.

So it's exactly the same as Ocean's 11, 12 and 13.
Cool.
It's also current at 77% w/a 6.3/10 score on RT so good job at cherry picking.
the other Ocean's RT scores for reference
Ocean's 11 - 82%, 7.0/10 LINK
Ocean's 12 - 54%, 5.9/10 LINK
Ocean's 13 - 70%, 6.4/10 LINK

Ocean's 11

There. You may now go gargle some nut-butter.
Metacritic is so much more reliable anyway, and is linked and cited by IMDB, which has no score yet because there aren't enough reviews.
Like I said. I likely still see it. I'm just less enthusiastic about it.

Nobody cares about the original Sinatra version in relation to this movie so I don't know why you are mentioning it.
When I said it's just like the other three I was referencing a review you quoted "This is a self-satisfied exercise that's only occasionally as much fun as it thinks it is" which is exactly like the three Clooney movies.
I also gave the overall scores and not just the fresh score so I'm not sure why you are dismissing it out of hand. Also not sure why you think MC is so much better when they have just as many issues w/how they counts scores.
Regardless, here are the Metacritic scores
11 - 74 LINK
12 - 58 LINK
13 - 62 LINK
currently 8 is at 62 LINK which puts it right around the others.
Unless you hated 12 and 13 I'm not sure why the reviews for 8 are not looking good when it's being reviewed at a similar level to those those and a bit under 11.

Yea they're trying way too hard. Really forced. You either got the smooth cool fun factor or you don't. The cast in the original oceans had it. They had the 'it' factor
This newest oceans is trying hard to replicate it, and it shows

quote:Right, and I'm telling you you're wrong, as evidenced by 11, which doesn't "think" it's good. It is good, even better than the original.

There. I don't know how many different ways I can say it, so hopefully your battery is all charged up now.

Unless you hated 12 and 13
And then there's all that stuff the reviewers from those major, respected publications actually said. You know, the actual reviews, or are you such a lemming that you just look at the score.

Don't care, I'll be in the theater cranking it to Sandra.

Why are these reviewers all so misogynistic?
Posted on 6/6/18 at 12:13 pm to blueboy
Yes, I've read several reviews and they all sound pretty much about like what the reviews for the Clooney movies are. It can be fun in parts and in other parts it's smug and full of itself.
I still have no idea why you are referencing the Sinatra version that nobody gives a shite about. BTW that one has a 50%, 5.3/10 on RT LINK (it's not on MC) so it's wasn't a huge bar for the modern ones to pass it up.
But hey, let's go w/RT audience scores if that's your thing
11 - 80%
12 - 60%
13 - 75%
If 8 is in line with those I really don't see how "it's not looking good."
On IMDB it goes
11 - 7.8 LINK
12 - 6.5 LINK
13 - 6.9 LINK
So basically pretty much everywhere these movies are looked at as good but not great. They little more than are your basic summer popcorn flicks that heavily rely on the likeability of the major star power involved and stylish direction.
Again, not sure why you are saying things don't look good when this one seems to be getting about the same reacting the others tended to get. Sorry for not seeing too much of a different between the 6-8 range for these flicks.
