Are you an organ donor? And if not, why?

My dad died in February from an aneurysm and we donated his organs.

Yesterday we received a thank you letter from the woman who received his lungs and it brought me such joy (and some sadness too)

It was so touching to hear how he helped improved this woman’s life and how grateful she is. I’ll cherish it always

Just thought I’d share. Maybe some will reconsider their stance if against organ donation

Of course I am. What use are those organs to me if I'm already dead?

I am absolutely an organ/tissue/everything donor. It's on my license and all of my family is abundantly clear on my wishes. Anything that can go to the living should.

I don't reckon I'll need my lungs once I'm dead so might as well give them to somebody that can use them. I don't really understand why you wouldn't be, you're dead you don't need your organs anymore.

I'm an organ donor and always encourage others to be ones as well.

So many lives can be saved by being one. And it can help the loved ones (such as you and your family) in their grief. Knowing that something good can come out of something so horrible.

Thanks for sharing the letter with us Paige. I'm sure your father would be so happy to know he helped a grandmother spend more time with her family.

I'm not due to an irrational fear that doctors won't work as hard to save my life if I'm in a catastrophic accident once they know I'm a donor.

The harvesting team, transport team, hospital, the doctors all make FORTUNES doing one of these procedures.

When they include my beneficiaries in the money, I will agree to it.

ETA: Sorry for the loss of your dad, Paige and he did a genuinely nice thing.

If they can salvage anything useful out of this wreck of body of mine, they can have it.

Yes I am. Also, parents need to discuss the scenario of their children being a donor. If the unthinkable happens, it's best to have that discussion beforehand.

Happy it brightened your day. I'm a donor. However, the liver will probably be ruled out.

Yes, and everyone should join a marrow registry also.

Absolutely.

I won't need them when I'm gone and it feels like selfishness.

Then burn the rest.

Who is cutting onions up in the OT?

Seriously, that was an amazing gift your family made. Very sorry for your loss, but hopefully you and your father's loved ones can take some solace in knowing what a tremendous gift you gave to another person and her family.

Since I will be cremated anyways, may as well have the organs. Perhaps I will give a grid location of where my tree is planted in case they want to pop by.
