Nothing new here. It is fascinating how this salary process works for the families.

Should of knocked up a river boat pilots daughter. Don't get upset because of your poor choices.

Carrying on the time-honored tradition of telling "the workin' man" he's their friend and fricking the general populace for their own enrichment and/or to stay in power.

Where's The Prince when you need him.

They are paid the same on other harbors/ rivers too. I believe the Houston guys actually make more.
I'm curious though, how much does the normal boat captain make that drives the ship from harbor to harbor? I have no idea? It must be considerably less?

1. Not all pilots have family connections
2. Only a few can navigate the River with 850 foot long and 100 feet wide ships

They do pretty well...six figures for sure if I recall correctly...

They make 2-350,000. Sometimes more, but usually less.

A state-regulated nepotistic enterprise has no business being around in 2018.
quote:More than are allowed to owing to the barriers in place to entry. Probably some who would be better than the present crop don't apply because of the nepotism and closed process.

That's because not many are selected to learn how.

Honor Code gonna Honor Code.
It is all about gravying up your people and supporters.
Happening in multiple other areas with boards, etc.
The workers' comp judges and head judge are a farce, as is opiate reform under his administration.

I’m ok with the monopoly on river pilot jobs as long as it keeps women out. My God, could you imagine?

Husband of SO's friend captains a work boat in the gulf, has had several pay cuts and drives uber on his time off. I know he'd like to get in on some of that river pilot action.

I'm sure more could if the selection/training process was open.
