What is the worst thing you got away with as a child?

When I was 8 or so I was obsessed with burning stuff with a magnifying glass. I would fry ants, wasps, etc. I never could get leaves to do anything other than smolder. We lived just outside of Thibodaux so there were sugar cane fields everywhere. Those dry leaves on the low parts of the cane were perfect for magnifying glass practice. I finally figured out how to make a full flame and not just an ember on the dry cane. Unfortunately that flame became a fire too big for me to stomp out. In hindsight I shouldn't have been burning the leaves while they were still attached to the cane. I threw my magnifying glass in the ditch and went home. The whole field ended up burning. Looking back it was probably around 100 acres that went up in flames. Nobody ever knew it was me. I still feel kind of guilty about that. I was visiting my parents last night and my dad started talking about all the rabbits he was able to kill the day the cane field lit on fire. I guess there was kind of a silver lining to it.

I remember that it looked about like this

TL:DR

I lit a cane field on fire with a magnifying glass and got away with it.

It's hard to remember exactly what was going through my head but I do remember being absolutely terrified. I still haven't told anybody other than my little brother.

We've all done stuff when we were young that we shouldn't have.

I used to burn my toys and keep the burned out remains.
Not really sure why I did that. I never burned anything of value outside of that.
Perhaps I should've been a fire fighter.

Also I would catch toads and cut them open to watch their organs work. I'd shoot toads and lizards with my air rifle.

Til this day I feel horrible about that. I had no right to do that shite.

Told my mom that the dog stepped on the phone and called 911.

It was me.

She still mentions it to this day.

I was a rebel.

In third grade, I cheated on my history exam. In fourth grade, I stole my uncle Max’s toupee and I glued it on my face when I was Moses in my Hebrew School play. In fifth grade, I knocked my sister Edie down the stairs and I blamed it on the dog…When my mom sent me to the summer camp for fat kids and then they served lunch I went nuts and I pigged out and they kicked me out…But the worst thing I ever done — I mixed a pot of fake puke at home and then I went to this movie theater, hid the puke in my jacket, climbed up to the balcony and then, then, I made a noise like this: hua-hua-hua-huaaaaaaa — and then I dumped it over the side, all over the people in the audience. And then, this was horrible, all the people started getting sick and throwing up all over each other. I never felt so bad in my entire life.

Put a penny on the railroad tracks and derailed a train. With numerous chemical cars, some people couldn't return for months.

I hated Spanish in high school. We got a new school built between my freshman and sophomore year. Well, a friend of mine insisted that the Spanish teacher had left old, graded copies of all of his tests and quizzes in the closet of his classroom at the old high school. He'd helped some teachers with the move. He knew they were there. It was also known that the teacher didn't alter his tests from year to year. So we decided to break in with large laundry bags and load them up with tests, quizzes, etc. The main problem, other than breaking and entering, was that a portion of the first floor of the old school had been repurposed as the temporary hq for the narcotics division for the sheriff's department. Dressed in black, we snuck up to the building, climbed the fire escape, broke a window, loaded the laundry bags with tests and quizzes, and made our escape.

For the next 3 weeks we made 100s on everything. But, then we got greedy and started selling copies of quizzes and tests to classmates. The teacher figured out that his stuff had been compromised and changed made new tests.

When a kid in the neighborhood stole a mowing job from us, my buddy and I sabotoged his lawnmower by draining his oil dry at midnight. When the mower blew a piston, he had to quit because his dad wouldnt let him use their new mower. For a few years, Shorty and I owned the mowing business in the neighborhood.

When I was a junior in HS we had to write our first term papers, so I did...and got an "A" average over the 7 grades on the paper. So I figured...there's money to be made here. But I don't want to get greedy...so I told a few folks that I was gonna charge $50 for a guaranteed "C" average paper and $100 for a "A" average paper (this was in the 80s). Got a job for a "A" paper and a "C" paper. Make some money...both papers did what they were supposed to do grade-wise.

Got into my Senior year...and did the same thing. No one was the wiser.

I shot a hole in the floor of our kitchen with a .357.

I had a Ruger Blackhawk revolver and western holster. Up late one night watching my VHS of Lonesone Dove. Went in the kitchen with my iron on my hip and saw my reflection in the glass windows. Started quick drawing and shot a hole in the floor. Parents were upstairs and never heard a thing. I managed to stuff leaves from outside in the hole it matched the wood tile enough to make it through everyone leaving for work and school. I skipped school that day and knew we had extra tiles in the shop. Spent the day fixing it and other than just a little uneven bump it wasn’t even noticeable
