The husband needs to be thanking her for hanging back and handling the house / kids. But I reject the notion that the rest of us somehow owe her anything. I got news, they chose that life and they can deal with it. When there is a draft and it isn’t a choice, get back to me.

Fricking relax dude.
It's a testament to the fact that spouses may have to go long periods of time without seeing their loved ones, and being left by themselves to take care of the kids, etc. back home.

I understand this, but a slight change in wording would go a long way.
Instead of "as a spouse, you serve too" which is not true, make it "a spouse's support is part of the service" or something along those lines.

Lots of civilians are in the same situation. No one gives a shite, they chose that career path just like the civilians. We masturbate to the military way too much. Budget and benefits need a good reducing.

People .ight feel worse for them if the rate of infidelity weren't so high, or at least highly publicized

yup. One of my best friends is a vet. He did a few tours in Iraq. The only complaining he does is about how other veterans feeling entitled. The way he looks at it is he made a choice to join, he knew he might deploy, and now he is enjoying going to school on the GI bill and not having to work until he graduates. He considers that his thank you.
Hell, I hunted/fished with him for a couple of months before I even knew he was a veteran.

This. Or freedoms haven't been protected since 1945. Everything else was police actions and nation building.

There are unique challenges for spouses but there are some unique accommodations and some good perks too, that can help with those challenges. This is especially true for those living on the installation. At many installations you can take care of everything needed and never have to leave the installation, including school for the kids. That's pretty nice. And it's all facilitated by having that ID card.
It's comical and sad at the same time to see a brigade or battle group deploy and immediately there's a swarm of women at the E-Club, the NCO-Club, and the bars out in town.

It takes a special level of delusion to claim you served the country because you walked around the house in pajamas, watching the Price is Right while the kids played on ipads. Meanwhile your husband is being shot at by a bunch of Muhammads.
