Question about 8th grade school trip

My son's school is offering a trip to New York and Boston for some sightseeing and the selling point of some science and math mixed in to appease the parents..
They promise a lot of good things .. so I'm wondering if anyone has sent their child on one of these trips and any advice.
Also... I know this could be travel board but that group is very into their own adult experience not necessarily their kids solo trips.. but if it needs to be moved it can..
TIA

Sounds like some teachers want a free vacation.

Given today’s teacher climate I’d be scared for your child’s well being on such a trip.

My sons gifted class has done a trip like this each year to different cities.
While I have gone on the trip the last 3 years, I will say most of the places and things we did, definitely leaned towards education and I think your kid will gain more from the experience than they would with one more week of class.

I remember my 7th grade field trip to DC. Was a great time. Now when I see those giant field trips I want to punt those little frickers. 47 kids and parents wearing matching blue t-shirts taking up space

I went to Charlottesville, Williamsburg, Philadelphia, and DC on a field trip in 8th grade. It was awesome. I would highly recommend it.

We went to Europe. I made out with a lot of the chicks in my class. Even got my finger wet

First BJ I got was on an overnight 8th grade trip.
I promise whatever rules they have to keep boys and girls seperate are not enough.

We went to NY and DC on the same trip in 8th grade...this was in '86...I don't remember shite about it.
My daughter is in 8th, and her class is going to DC at end of the month.
She won't remember shite either 30 yrs later.
What was the question again?

I went on one to DC for a week back in the '90s in 4th grade. And then to Europe for two weeks in 10th grade. They were geared more towards Government and History instead of Science or Math, obviously. But I remember the DC trip being really interesting and learned a lot.
The Europe trip was more of a party atmosphere but we were older and alcohol was very available as long as we got could sneak it past the chaperones.
I don't see how Boston and NYC could teach very much about science or Math, but what do I know. I would have loved to have had an opportunity like that in 8th grade. It also depends on the personality of the kid, obviously. If you think he's responsible enough, let him go I say.

We went to DC in middle school. Vaguely remember the famous sites. I do remember being constipated for the first time in my life, because I held a shite in for too long on the bus ride there (didn’t want to shite on the bus), and couldn’t shite for another day or two once we got to our hotel room.

I’m not understanding the question. It’s a field trip. ask about chaperone situation and cost and make your decision

Save the money and bring them on a trip yourself over the summer

I've gotten the chaperone info.. and it all "there will be someone watching them at all times" stuff... while I have a feeling the teachers will be out at Club 69 on Times square..
Just making sure there are 0 to little horror stories..
I trust my son... just not everyone else.. so far the comments have been more positive..
Also : public school
Also : yes... totes had sex once
