How can so many people believe this claim is true?

I was at a local fundraiser the other day and a guy who is apparently well known gender studies professor came up and gave a speech. I'm not actually sure who this guy was (I looked him up online and couldn't find anything), or why this guy was giving a speech because the fundraiser had nothing to do with gender studies. Anyway, this self proclaimed expert started talking about the oppression of the homosexual community and even went so far as to say that coming out as gay in 2018 is even more brave than serving on the first line in Iraq. I had a real problem with this claim, and I ended up leaving in the middle of this speech. However, I further researched the topic and found that there are many people online these days that are in agreement with this same opinion. This just has me wondering, what the hell is wrong with our country, and why do people honour others more for their sexual preference than for their service in the military? THIS CLAIM MERITS NO TRUTH!

Only a person who has lived a very privileged and sheltered life could possibly believe this.

I guess step one to making an outlandish claim is to pick something that can't possibly be really quantified.

Sometimes I wonder why the people that shoot up places like waffle house don't go after idk the Kardashians or gender studies professors instead.

If you want to do something courageous and are black, a journalist, a college professor, and/or in the entertainment industry, come out as a CONSERVATIVE

Do you have a link to others holding this opinion?
Just because we are all free to have an opinion doesn't mean that we should hold them all as equally valid.

There are far worse things that people believe are true on the internet.
There are people that harass the Sandy Hook victims because they think they made up their 1st grader's murder.

Lonald Weiler-Sledge said something similar in his lecture last semester

Oppression?? There are gay bars, gay parades, things like gay pride day, gay colleges (aTm, Ole Miss), etc.
Now go to Iraq and tell the natives you're gay and see what happens. You'll be dead before you can complain about being "oppressed."

Wtf is that anyway? LoL.. How anyone can receive a paycheck for studying the differences between genders(and comparing admission of homosexuality to being shot at), is mind boggling!
I agree with you... that people actually believe some of this garbage is saddening.

Then why do you need to comment in every single one? If you don't like my threads and you see that I'm the one posting, its really easy to either A) Not click on it or B) Don't respond or C) Meet me at the Sonic on Airline in Metairie

No one really cares if you are gay in today’s society.
