Sorry if this is germans.

Well the genie is out of the bottle. The mystery is solved looks as if Key was enjoying his ganja intake.

quote:

“He needs to not smoke,” an NFC personnel director told Pelissero about Key. “For him, it is a big deal because it’s affected his playing career at LSU. The kid needs a lot of support and a lot of help.”

I know most people suspected this, as I also did, but it has finally leaked out what Key obviously told NFL teams with the comment above, he got caught smoking weed.

I’ll be honest

Leaving the team for the whole spring because he was caught smoking weed feels like an overreaction.

It’s weed. It should be like a 1 game suspension if anything.

If he was as ala-frickING-bama he would not have had to sit out at all. this shite pisses me off! they get away with it but we suspend our best defensive player for an entire spring for it.

This is what a crashing stock looks like, but hey, he’s keepin it real when talking to NFL teams.

Call me callous as some will say it’s an addiction and excuse his conduct, but with what this guy stood to gain as a pro, he made some choices that easily categorize him
as an idiot.

The issue is not whether weed is bad or good, or whether it should be legal or not. The issue is that if you are going to pay someone millions of dollars, you expect them to follow rules (and laws) and not do anything to jeopardize the team or themselves.

If Key can't do that while an amateur, how can he be expected to do it as a pro? I wouldn't touch him for that, and other reasons.

Weed isn't the problem. Sounds like he has an addictive personality and some other underlying mental things to work out that caused him to smoke like he did. Good he worked on figuring that out at a young age. They have people in their 60s and 70s on this board that don't want to confront theirs, rather it be with weed, booze, or whatever it is. Good job Arden!

The issue isn't the weed use, it is the lack of self discipline. Not smoking isn't hard. I smoked every night in college. Then I graduated and took a great job, but I get randomly drug tested. Does it suck not being able to smoke? Sometimes. But a little green sure isn't worth losing my career.

Honestly, coming back waaay out of shape and waaay overweight was probably more detrimental than the absence itself.

He's hardly a "kid." He's a grown-arse man according to the law. Too bad.

If you have a bit of self control, you can smoke while in the league.

The way I've heard the NFL drug testing explained is this; All players will be tested at some point between March and July. It's random, so you don't know when.

If you pass that, you will not be tested until the next cycle, meaning if you get tested in May and pass, you will not be tested again until at least the next March. So you can smoke to your heart's content afterwards.

If you fail, THEN you're subjected to repeat testing throughout the year. The NFL wants to look the other way. It's the idiots that cannot hold off until the initial random testing that end up being in the drug program.
