I never said I read it. I was aware this happened, but I haven't really paid that much attention to it so I wasn't aware of all the details, but thanks. Now I know the flight was going to Dallas, but made an emergency landing in Philadelphia.

I pretty much hate this mindset, but I’m sure many who were not drastically affected by this experience will go this route in order to make a quick buck off of a tragic event.

If i was on that plane there is no way I would be able to ever fly again

I am 30 years old and have to travel for my job, plus I have tons of travel in my future for personal life enjoyment

So this would harm my job and personal life

I know everyone hates lawyers and people who sue, but sometime it is justified

It’s no more tragic than seeing a car fly through a red light and t bone another vehicle and kill them. If you were the car behind them, you saw it all happen, and at the end of the day, you are happy you are alive.

Its a lot different actually from the standpoint I am fairly certain you didn't have a "contract" with the car who ran the red light

And it is far more tragic because humans are far more conditioned to car wrecks than plane accidents

It is horrible, I am not saying it isn't, but if you experience something tragic on your own, there isn't anyone who is going to send you money.

And they are not sending them the money simply because they had a tragic experience. It's to prevent any potential lawsuits.

This money isn't to prevent lawsuits. They know those are coming

This money is for public perception

You're not a lawyer, and who pissed in your soup?

You obviously think these people should get nothing, but why?

I'm sure there is a disclaimer for it though. If you sign the check, it's an acceptance that you can't sue kind of thing.

It isn't. Those will come later, and it will be a lot more than 5k

I understand a lot of people would feel like you do. But I bet many others will just look at it as a financial opportunity to capitalize on.. and that’s more who I was talking about.

I don’t know. It’s tough to put myself in that situation. I can certainly see the financial value of job and personal life being affected. I don’t know how to put a value on mental anguish though.

It is very hard to pinpoint the actual value of it

I am simply saying I beleive there is money that needs to be given here, and 5k ain't even close to it

So what’s your proposal here? Permanent disability? How much should each person get in your opinion? Where is the line? What about the passenger 30 rows away that didn’t see anything but had to wear an oxygen mask and was scared?

I think it's closer of a comparison if you were the passenger in the car and another passenger died.

was the tragedy in question at least 51% or more caused by Southwest's negligence in maintaining their fleet?

You want me to come up with all those answers?

There is a reason attorneys and insurance companies makes so much money and these cases take time
