Has the death of someone close ever changed you?

Meaning you make a lifestyle decision to change drastically because of the passing of a loved one. How'd it work out?
Whether a career change, deciding to chase a dream, or simply stopped living in the day to day grind?
Any success stories?

Does a heart transplant count?
Not that I’ve had one but just asking.

When Prince died I wore all purple for like four days straight

When my grandfather died I was 12 years old. After that I never really trusted in a benevolent god who cared about us.

I went to 8 (all family) funerals in 18 months, including my kid sister, my dad, both grandmothers, my brother-in-law, a sister sister-in-law.....
Then lost everything in the flood, and lost my job after 9 yrs, but hey I'm doing just fine.

My Dad died of a heart attack at 58. I’ve said a few times that I’m going to eat better, exercise ect. No success in the long run though. Biscuits and bacon in the morning, cold beer every night.

Darth almost died once and that made my TD experience worse for a while because of his incessant posting about it.
Hope this helps.

Damn man, that had to be tough. Sorry you had to go through all of that.

Technically yes. It made me more course and jaded as an individual. I became less compassionate and more of an a-hole.
This may sound like a negative, but before I experienced the death of someone close to me I was overly nice, overly compassionate and cared too much about everyone else's happiness.
Now? frick em.

Yeah. A lot. I buried whatever faith I had left in the dirt with my brother. Now I live for today, and tonight, and know full well the dawn isn’t guaranteed.
Nothing is written. We only have the now.
Hold those who are dear close and those that would drag you down, cut the tethers and let them sink.
We sail from storm to storm and any fair winds and doldrums we may get are only temporary.
If you leave a port that has gone toxic, burn it down before you leave so that you aren’t tempted to return.

I was 19 when my dad died. He had been sick for several years before, but after he passed away I grew up quicker. My mom and I had a bad relationship soon after that lasted for years.. For over 10 years... so that had an impact on me as well.

Had an uncle I was really close to kill himself. Never saw it coming. He was a very successful physician and he shot himself next to his infinity pool. It made me seek treatment for my own depression issues and life has gotten much better in the last 6 years. I've gone back to school, have a successful career, and I don't sweat the small shite anymore. Kind of put life in perspective for me.

One of my best friends died just a couple weeks after we both turned 21. Made me a lot more aware of my own mortality and I definitely toned down a lot of the reckless party shite I was doing.

Yep in 2001 my mother and grandmother, the two women that raised me both died. I turned into a shitshow drug addict and alcoholic. I’m good now. Had to get that outta my system I suppose.
