Most antidepressants require a taper period. Don't try and stop or start on your own without discussing with a real doctor.

Definitely take this seriously. I had an uncle who decided to cold turkey quit Paxil. He flipped out on his wife, then shot the window out of a police car that responded, and had an all night standoff with the cops surrounding his house all while not really understanding what was going on. He died in prison.

Make sure you're talking to a doctor when adjusting these meds.

don't ever dial back on that stuff on your own. I started taking Effexor in '03 or so I thought I could quit cold turkey about a year or so later. That was a disaster. I felt horrible.

Talk to whomever prescribed it to you about maybe cutting back, lower dosage, etc. But don't just stop.

You need to see a doctor and utilize their advice. What works for some doesn’t work for others.

My experience: I fought anxiety for so long naturally. Felt medication was for the weak, until I started having panic attacks that caused me to physically have to leave Work meetings unexpectedly. Doc prescribed me Xanax for 3 months as needed. Worked great but I hated the idea of taking medicine. She switched me to Buspar daily and it made me feel like shite. Dizzy, vomiting etc. switched me back to Xan as needed and I tapered off completely with the help of speaking to a therapist over a couple of months.

I'm going back on the medicine as prescribed I guess what I'm going for here is just some reassurance that going through the beginning side effects again is normal and that things should regulate after a couple of weeks.

First off you should see a doctor.

Second, consider cognitive behavioral therapy. Pretty much wiped out any debilitating anxiety for me, been almost 10 years.

When I started, the actual side effects stopped after a few days. The rest of the 3 week process was just overcoming the actual anxiety.

well rest assured, it is completely normal. I know every time I have changed, gotten off, or whatever, I was afraid that it was never going to work again.

I was convinced this last time I got back on it DEFINITELY wasn't going to work because I was on it before so it wouldn't work for me anymore. Well, that wasn't true. It took a while (almost like 12 weeks for me) but it indeed did work again.

Don't fret, keep putting one foot in front of the other and rest assured that your symptoms will subside and you will be fine again.

Stop giving medical advice. Let the man talk to his doctor.

Great advice. Get drunk every night if you have depression. Nothing could ever go wrong with that.

Yea man, I tried all the natural stuff. Like I said earlier in the thread I was definitely one who didn't get depression/anxiety before it happened to me. I understood it if people were going through something major or whatever but I have pretty much everything I ever wanted out of life.

Financially stable, happy marriage, two amazing kids, great family relationships, stress free job with lots of time off, several friend groups, outside all the time, exercise regularly, etc...

That's the hard part is I realize all these things and still wake up feeling this way out of nowhere. If there were a cause or something I think I could handle it a lot better knowing it would pass or it would at least make sense.

Alcohol is a nervous system suppressant which makes it the opposite of a depressant for many people.

That's the thing....it's a disorder and it tricks your mind into feeling sad even when everything around you is great. It's tough to deal with. I'm the same way. I even told my Dr "I have no idea why I feel like this because I have no real reason to" but he educated me on how it all works with the brain.

I think the original guy was kidding when he suggested it.

I like bourbon and I never learn, but alcohol always makes my anxiety/depression much worse in the days after drinking. Often for as many as like 4-5 days
