Thanks guys.
I know people say things on the internet they would not say in real life. I have been to the USA and never had any real hostility but now I worry that is hidden in a deeply passive aggressive manner and it would make me uncomfortable and ruin my holiday.
I have always wanted to go to Canada so not a major problem in moving a few things around.
Happy travels to yourselves if you are planning anything.
Take care.

Reading your post history on the message boards, you sound like a close minded toff. How ignorant of you. Shameful.

Hey.
I've seen your comments in the thread on the OT where you've done nothing but bash the US, our culture, and society.
How about you keep your arse in the UK, you frick.

Well that’s just sad; that you would change your plans because of what a few people wrote on a political board.
But I never could figure out how you were going to make this trip work anyway.
Your plan to visit a vast area that has little public transportation without the ability to drive did not add up for me. And you seemed to be on a tight budget and could not afford the more expensive centrally located hotels.
I was curious what got you so upset so I read the debates on the political board. Seemed tame to me compare to the jawing that goes on in The House of Commons; would have thought you brits were tougher than that; stiff upper lip and all that bloody rot.
If you ever do make it down south come back to the board and give us a report on any intense dislike you encounter simply because you are from another country; aka xenophobia. I reckon (I know brits say reckon cause I’ve been watching Midsomer Murders) it will be a short report.
By the way, based on Midsomer Murders, y’all are really nasty to each other in those villages; not to mention all the killin’s. There are usually at least two per episode.
Looking on the bright side, I expect it will be really cold in Canada in Oct/Nov and there should be lots of snowflakes falling. You should feel right at home.

#4 Miami/Key West
#5 Las Vegas/Grand Canyon
If you like giant museums and history
Washington DC

I was going to combine public transit with the Uber.
I was not really planning to go into the wilderness apart from a tour to Grand Canyon from Vegas. It looked doable on paper.
And all the hotels I had planned were in pretty good areas in each city. I am not sure where you got the idea that they weren’t.

There’s nothing there remotely like an LSU home Game Day.
Now they do have plenty of grey, boring days in dreary, dull, forgettable places where nothing of note happens in the UK, so that’s a lot like a Mississippi State home game.
Hence, his plans are what they are.

Classy.

Seriously, you're overthinking this. You had a good plan. Canada is nice, too, but will be cold in November.
Donald Trump being POTUS has not changed anything, and what you're hearing/seeing is the usual gnashing of teeth and pontificating that occurs when a different political party moves into the White House.
FYI - college football games are much more fun than NFL games. The stadiums are bigger, the crowds are bigger and more into it, and the gameday experience is amazing. Not to mention college co-eds everywhere...

The U.K. is wonderful writ large.
But one must admit that Grimsby in Winter is, well Grims-by.

You came onto an American message board discussing a UK topic, disagreed with the posters and then started ranting about guns.
Shocking that people weren't pleasant toward you.
BTW, this isn't real life, and in the places you'd go, even in the south, you'd find plenty of people praising how "enlightened" the UK/Europe is. The culture wars are being fought about on message boards and Twitter, not in the streets or in bars.
