A person at the city attorneys office. They said that if I come to court and plead not guilty that I will need an attorney going forward.
If you bother to go to court, this case will be dropped instantly. I'll bet 10 bucks to a doughnut your ticketing officer won't be there. You win just by denying.
That's a lot of trouble though. Sometimes you just pay the fine and move on.

You can find plenty of lawyers, myself included, that would be happy to take your case for $500 instead of $1500.
Hell, we would be at court anyway so it's no skin off our back. We would, while speaking with the prosecutor about another ticket or criminal matter, tell him that your case is bullshite because you were only going two mph over the speed limit. Then that prosecutor would dismiss the ticket and we would both get a good laugh about it and go have lunch.
Then you'd save money on your insurance because you didn't just "pay the ticket."
I also don't believe you got a ticket for 2 mph over the limit. Furthermore, what kind of attorney quoted you $1500 for a damn speeding ticket?

Is this what cities are doing now to earn more money. With all of the crime going on they have traffic stops in the business district. I was tempted to fight it but was told that I would need a lawyer. I guess ill pay the damn thing instead of paying a lawyer $1500
I paid $200 to an atty for my last one and pleaded guilty to "parking on pavement" with a $100 fine, and it is not on my driving record.
They just want your money, not your record.
And yes, the city thanks you for paying your taxes via LEO.

Thanks for including this. I was going to suggest you be flogged in the public square but now I realize you Back the Blue, so we’re all good here.

Last instance I had, was a ticket for ignoring a traffic indicator. (A curb indicating no left turn)
I turned right then did a U-Turn. U-Turns are legal unless a sign proves otherwise.
The City Po-Po read me the riot act and gave me a ticket. I showed up in court, ready to explain the law, and A) the judge explained it to me, saying I was correct. B) He told me later that city po-po never show up for traffic violations.
Go to court if you want it dismissed. It's not like this is the OJ trial.

"accidentally" have your military ID fall out
Some states now have licenses with your branch identified on your drivers license.
I changed over from a military retiree tag to a DAV tag. AL gives you a break on part of the taxes on the DAV tag. I also figured it might help me a bit more if I ever get pulled over.
Of course, I had to give them copies of my VA disability rating paperwork to get the tag.

Here in Gwinnett County if you plead not guilty you will get a rescheduled court date and the officer will be there.
OP didn’t get a ticket for going 2 miles over the speed limit. It was 20. The 0 must have gotten smeared

Little off topic, but...
When I see cars with the LA State Police or blue line American flag decals on their cars I wonder if the police give them a break or if they think the person is just trying to avoid a ticket and treat them like anyone else. I’m sure it goes both ways depending on the officer. Any cops on here who’ll chime in? I bought a blue line decal at a gun show but haven’t put it on my car wondering about this...

If you can, show up to your court date. The ticketing officer will rarely (if ever)be there. (instant dismissal) If the officer IS there, ask for radar tuning records. It's a lot of trouble but you will get that ticket dismissed. No lawyer, just a bored judge with no complaintant, and will dismiss such a paltry ticket anyway
Not in the state of MS.
I got a bs ticket about 10 years ago where a trooper zapped a car similar to mine, and due to his incompetence, I wound up with the ticket. The car he clocked actually passed me before getting pulled over.
It was at night, light rain, in larger than normal traffic, the trooper was traveling the opposite direction on a divided highway, and he had to travel down the highway a half mile to turn around on a paved crossing. He had to use his blue lights in the left lane to get the car behind me to move back enough to get behind me.
Took it to the kangaroo justice court in Mississippi. The justice court judges are basically required to graduate high school and take a correspondence course. That’s it. No kidding.
Called first and delayed the date. Gave bs excuse. Court date changed. Came second date and found out the trooper showed up both times. Got the trooper to admit to the judge that it was raining, he was traveling the opposite direction, heavy traffic, and he lost sight for a total of 4 miles while he had to turn around in a paved crossing. Explained that the car he clocked passed me and he had to get the car behind me to move back to pull me over. Trooper did not deny.
Asked for a dismissal due to there being no way he could be sure I was the car he clocked. The juge said “I have to take the word of the Trooper”
Knowing that Mississippi justice courts are merely tax collection offices with incompetence is common.. I demanded the radar records. Didn’t have them.
Moved for dismissal. Judge said he would give the troopers office time to fax them to the office. He paused the case and took other cases until the tax was returned. When he showed up with the faxed copies, I argued they were not admissible as the originals were obviously available and obtainable. Also any alterations would not be easily viewable.
Moved for dismissal again. Judge had obviously not heard of the concept.
Prepared for that. Found a federal appeals court ruling where a verdict was overturned due to best evidence rule. Presented copy of the argument, court, wording of the document, and record information.
Moved for dismissal. The judge actually found two cells in his cranium to reply that he wasn’t sure a federal appeals court decision was valid for use in MS justice court.
Since I knew the inevitable outcome, I basically then said it was true that justice court is really just an arm of the tax assessors office. That garnered a little chuckle from everyone in the room including the trooper. Ticket was over 200 bucks. I told the cashier to relish it because I’ll not spend another damn dime in her backwards, rural, pitiful, incompetent county ever again.

Offer to pay the court costs but not the fine. Most places will give you that deal. No affect on your driving record.

Louisiana gives Purple Heart recipients their tags at no charge. My dad always said..that's the only benefit he saw from those mortar fragments.
