Received a ticket today for driving 37/35
Posted by winston318 on 3/28/18 at 10:10 pm1129
Wife looked up the cost and its $172.
Is this what cities are doing now to earn more money. With all of the crime going on they have traffic stops in the business district. I was tempted to fight it but was told that I would need a lawyer. I guess ill pay the damn thing instead of paying a lawyer $1500

Why would you need a lawyer? Just go to traffic court and "represent" yourself. It's a ticket. Odds are the judge will kick it because come on 2 MPH?

Walk in and dispute it. They will probably drop it down to something minimal. Then pay the fine and be done.

That person was either misinformed or lied.

Here's an idea. Pay off the fine with Krispy Kreme Donut gift cards.

If you can, show up to your court date. The ticketing officer will rarely (if ever)be there. (instant dismissal) If the officer IS there, ask for radar tuning records.
It's a lot of trouble but you will get that ticket dismissed. No lawyer, just a bored judge with no complaintant, and will dismiss such a paltry ticket anyway.
Edit: My Father was a state trooper. He never showed up in court unless it was a criminal case. He HATED it.

Move to Birmingham. Near as I can tell, no speed limit of any kind is enforced there.

Well it is the end of the month so they do have their quotas to reach. They say they don't have quotas, but they have something no matter what they call them.
When I was growing up in MS, the federal government threatened to cut off highway money because the state was not issuing enough tickets. I said that was bullshite. What if all of your residents actually obeyed the laws? You still lose your highway money?
Then, I got a ticket for doing 77 in a 55 when I had my cruise control set at 55. When I mentioned it to another friend, he said that he got a ticket for doing 78 in a 55 by the same state trooper. I challenged the ticket, but the judge took the officer's side. She said that that was the first time that he has been in front of her. Then my mother told the story of my friend, and the officer's face turned bright red and he stormed out of the courtroom. After he left, the judge forgot what she told me 5 minutes earlier and said that she has had many problems with him in the past but still sent me to defensive driving.
I still respect the police, but just not that one.

I got a ticket 15 years ago in Claiborne Parish doing 20 mph over the speed limit. I was guilty. I wrote a letter to the DA letting him know I was traveling to Shreveport to see my mom before she woke up from neck surgery.
Because I had a clean record, they wiped it clean, no fine. You don’t need a lawyer to fight this.

Every state needs to pass a law that if the speeding is less than 10 mph over the limit, the money goes to the state and not the local jurisdiction
local speeding tickets virtually disappear when this happens

The dick move is to "accidentally" have your military ID fall out when you get pulled over and asked for your DL. I got stopped for doing 86 in a 55 a few weeks ago. "thank you for your service Colonel , drive safe" LOL
