Trying to bring 14 sacks of crawfish 1,200 miles to Wisconsin for Easter weekend. 19 hour drive. Would leave Friday morning and drive straight through, and they will be boiled Saturday around lunch. Never done this before and getting all kinds of advice to put in the ice chests, ice/no ice, no water/some water, keep the lid open, etc. Gotta be some baws here that have done this.

Layer of ice on bottom, sacks, burlap or Terry cloth that is damp. Prop open lid to allow evaporative cooling.

Why don't you just buy them up there?

Put them in the back of the truck close the cab throw a wet burlap sack on them and roll on. When you stop rewet the sack.

Honest question: why don't you just order them and have them shipped up there?
That's what I've done in the past and it's worked out well.

Drain the water as the ice melts?

Cover the bed of your truck with ice. Lay sacks down on ice. Put more Loose ice around sacks. Get a big painters drop cloth and wet it, then put it on top. Throw some ice on top of it. Stop every so often to hose them down and add ice.
ETA: do NOT put them in anything closed up. They’ll suffocate and die. Also don’t have them in water. They’ll drown

Designate a Trustee Crawfish and give him special privileges in exchange for keeping the others in line.
