There was madness in any direction, at any hour. If not across the Bay, then up the Golden Gate or down 101 to Los Altos or La Honda. . . . You could strike sparks anywhere. There was a fantastic universal sense that whatever we were doing was right, that we were winning. . . . And that, I think, was the handle—that sense of inevitable victory over the forces of Old and Evil. Not in any mean or military sense; we didn’t need that. Our energy would simply prevail. There was no point in fighting—on our side or theirs. We had all the momentum; we were riding the crest of a high and beautiful wave. . . . So now, less than five years later, you can go up on a steep hill in Las Vegas and look West, and with the right kind of eyes you can almost see the high-water mark—that place where the wave finally broke and rolled back.
Just kidding, hippies suck

We are currently living in the best time in human history.

2008-2016 was arguably the worst timeline in human history.
We've rebounded bigly since then.

While it may not seem so, We are amongst the most peaceful period in human history. Technology has vastly improved the quality of life for commoners.
All thanks to Western culture's post WWII evolution towards capitalism over imperialism

Twerking, vaping, and widespread acceptance of tattoos are all sure signs of an enlightened civilization.
Oh, and rap.

Not necessarily.
It could well be argued that living in the 100's AD Roman Empire was better for most people than anything that came after until about the Norman invasion of England or so. More technologically advanced, more peaceful, more stable, more prosperous.
There might be a case as well for the levels that the Assyrian Empire attained as well. Even the Greeks were baffled by a lot of what they accomplished. They wouldn't be surpassed until Rome.
We've largely been on a straight trajectory up since about the Black Death or so. Who knows if that will continue to be the case in the near and far future.
The very idea of society evolving and advancing is a recent and uniquely Western (and especially American) idea. It's now spread throughout the world, but for the vast majority of human history, that wasn't the case. It's actually a very large social condition that separates us from the ancients.

Right before Trump was elected.
It has taken a step back since he was elected, but will take a larger leap forward when he is ousted next year.

I’ve heard some people say right up until 1914 and the start of the First World War.
They probably have some royal/aristocratic blood. Too many cultural problems in 1914.
And there is a difference between the best time to be alive and the cultural high water mark. 2018 is the best time to be alive.
But for cultural high water mark I'd go with the late 80's to early 90's. Around the time of the collapse of the Soviet Union. The age of social media is definitely not our best cultural era.

2016 Presidential Election; it was the first time voters told the establishment to GFT
I am all for telling the establishment to GFT, but not at the risk of putting a fricking moron in office. This will get downvoted, but I think Trump is making a mockery of the position.. I just wish there was someone else who would challenge the establishment because Trump only does what is in Trump's best interest and not in the best interest of the country.

1950s-70s is when other countries really started imitating western culture and styles. Even in the Middle East. America winning WW2 and its post war economic boom really led most of the world to look up to us.
Then over time they hated us mostly due to our unnecessary military interventions

You may be right. That was certainly the high water mark for European culture, though.

You realize Trump’s predecessor wiped his arse with the Constitution on a regular basis, correct? He made the biggest mockery of the office of the president of anybody possibly in American history.
Let’s not also forget the fact that we had a guy getting blowjobs from his interns in the Oval Office before him too.
