Airport security isn’t the answer either.

No you’re not. The unspoken message is for the teachers to be responsible for protecting their students from an active shooter and potentially engage an active shooter. If they don’t do this, they’ll be publicly tarred. Arming teachers is not the answer.

Not all teachers would be asked to engage a suspect only the ones that volunteered or were selected to and agreed to be armed. They know the potential exists when they agree to it if it ever becomes an option for them do so.

I thought it would be an armed teacher making a mistake and taking out someone they thought had a gun or maybe taking out a student or two via friendly fire when going for a shooter/potential shooter. Never thought they'd have a teacher becoming the shooter (if that is what this is).

They need to buy their own guns.

I usually don't agree with the tinfoil hat wearers, but even I admit this feels contrived.

Just guessing but it sounds like this armed teacher panicked because everyone is on edge and is going to start seeing shooters around every corner.

Yes we are.

You can take it how you want. But no one has mentioned requiring teachers to go after shooters.

Instead just allow teachers to have a firearm with them for protection which would also provide some security for students as well.

Basically just like CCW permit carriers everywhere else.

And it might not be the answer, but teachers should be allowed to protect themselves.

Arming teachers coupled with an environment filled with fear/hysteria is going to result in shite like this. Militarizing our schools is not the answer to school shootings.

Please tell us what the answer is, O wise one!

If by "militarizing" you mean allowing qualified teachers to be armed then NO - it is not the answer. There is no answer. However, the thought process behind arming teachers is that it can be a deterrent to a potential school shooters and a quicker response time can mitigate the number of casualties. Mitigating casualties is one of the main arguments of those who want to ban assault weapons.

I saw the video of the kids all running. Im glad no one is hurt, but I imagine they were all pretty freaking scared. If I was a parent, I would be paranoid as shite trying to send my child to school right now.

Carrying guns into gun-free zones is bound to result in more gun accidents. Anyone who argues against that has their head in the sand.

Will the results of the accidents be more palatable than mass shootings is the discussion point.

Anyone who thinks gun free zones accomplish anything have their head in the sand.

The school shootings are proof that gun free zones are pointless other than making sure the victims are unarmed.

At first I thought this was the dumbest thing I'd read all day, but after more details came out you may be spot on:

The teacher was on a planning period, wouldn't let students into his room, locked the door, and then fired out a window.

He might have well just yelled, "this is why you don't arm teachers" while he was shooting
