They are surrounded by poor/cheap college kids, and are offering a premium product aimed more towards recent graduates and 24-35 market. They would have been better suited opening that in mid-city or towne center.

I ordered a medium pizza from there the other day with two toppings and it was $20. frick that noise.

Where in midcity would they open and with Rocca Pizzeria opening on government. I don't think this new Rotolos would fair too well.

I've only been in the place twice. But I get the vibe that the marketing agent in town (I don't want to shite on them by name) gave them a bunch of millenial buzz words to use and they ran with it. Also, I hope someone pointed out that their wine taps are kind of screwed up.

The Pelican House was trash.

Granted, I never went since it changed into a restaurant, but every time I went while it was a beer bar, I was severely unimpressed.

The owner was too lazy to properly configure the space before they launched.
It was like drinking in an empty banquet hall. The "main bar" to the right of the door when you walked in, was way too small and could not accommodate patrons properly, and the waitresses were too terrible to make up for it.

They should have created a U-shaped bar in the middle of the room as soon as you walked in, with tables off to the side.

As for his comments about Baton Rouge's culinary preferences, I almost don't even know how to respond due to how laughable it is. Tons of local, great restaurants thrive in this city. Blaming your patrons for your short-comings just highlights the reasons why the Pelican House failed.

They are building a second one at Bluebonnet & Highland.

Agreed, their food is a bit too much.

Question, did they give up on the whole midday lunch plan that they had or is that still a thing?

Oh I have no idea location-wise in mid city, just meant that is where the crowd they want is.

What’s the deal with Rocca Pizzeria? First I’m hearing of it.

I did forget about BJ's... but they don't brew any beer on site, so they don't really count.

Man I hope they make it. Along with the regular guys that I know from the old rotolos I saw some other friends joined them when they opened.

Never been there so that makes sense. Got spoiled in Denver on brewpubs, seemed like one on every block. Wish Tin Roof would up their food game at the brewery.

Rocco's took over the Goûter location. It's from the creators of Lit Pizza & Izzo's. Wood-fired pizza. I think it's a solid date night spot. The garlic knots are amazing.

All you O-T baws thoughts on the Ice House? The 3 GT machines makes them a winner IMO.

When you are one broken hot water heater away from losing the business I’d say maybe you should look in the mirror and question your business ability. Maybe it’s time for a different path.

I’ll have to check it out. Lit is awesome, and also perfectly located for what they offer.

I miss that place. They always seemed crowded when I went for lunch. I had a venison burger there once that was damn good.

The pizza was fine and I'm glad to see that they are going in a different angle from the other rotolos locations (The original rotolo's menu is entirely too large imho). With that being said, Idk if that demographic fits what they are trying to do. I could also be totally off because people may not know about this new location.

That location may blow up with the new construction (I believe is Rouse's is opening on burbank & lee) in that area.

There are a lot of restaurants in the BR area that open without the money they need to keep it afloat. If you don’t have 500k to a million dollars cash available (depending on the type of place), you should not be starting a restaurant.

It amazes me how many people grossly under-budget for maintenance/repairs.

The new ATC laws have been giving them shite recently (Cracking down on the private events and the food trucks that setup in their area).

Exactly this place was nothing special. Overpriced cookie cutter same ole shite.

Then on top of it lets name it the "Pelican House" and put up a lot of Louisiana stuff everywhere. How original... In the Capitol city too

It was the one where everyone and their mother thought they were going to a beer tasting (even the breweries), bought tickets, and then you find out it was to pay for a joint dinner but you had to buy your own beers. It was weird, horrendously advertised, and if I remember correctly a employee even started going after people on the Food Board.

Ha you're right, I forgot about the painting naked chick.
