Did you read that on Facebook? I believe there is only one state up north, that you have the duty to retreat. Now many states say in public you have the duty to retreat, but in one's own home.....fire away.

People who break in and rob someone’s home should be put to death at once. Pure trash

Your falsely assume criminals and low intelligence people weigh the consequences of their decisions.

Just make sure your shot is frontal, as like in the face. Things get complicated for shooters in the court system when you shoot perps in the back for some reason.

You can do that in your house in Louisiana. You can also do it in your car and just on your property if I am not mistaken.

So now someone with common sense and the ability to understand consequences must suffer for those without common sense and a grasp of the consequences of the evil thing they are doing?

This, plus limit it to just one lethal shot, and ensure he's armed (in that order). Not all necessary I guess, but will make everything more clear-cut in the aftermath.

A local man caught a man breaking into his car on the carport. Chased the man and shot him dead. Manslaughter charges are pending.

In their own homes? How far do you have to retreat before you can start shooting? What happens if I live in a tiny efficiency apt?

What state has the duty to retreat from your own house? This thread is "thinking" what the law actually provides in some form in every state.

That's illegal in most if not all states...though, depending on where "local" is, a jury could let him off the hook.

In Louisiana you can.

In Michigan even if they are robbing you, they have to be clearly about to kill you before you can kill them.

Liberals are against this because most Home break in’s are done by liberals.

Pretty sure every state has some version of the Castle Doctrine, which basically says you can defend your home with deadly force. So you do have the right.

The difference in state law is whether or not you have to retreat in public, but even in those states it’s only retreat “if you can do so with certain safety” meaning anytime someone is coming at you with a deadly weapon you can still use deadly force.

You get in trouble by doing exactly what one of the above posters described. Someone tries to break into your car, or breaks into your home and runs away when you confront them and then you chase them and shoot them in the back. You also can’t use deadly force to protect property you aren’t in, meaning you can’t use spring guns boobs traps or anything like that.

Michigan has a fairly standard castle doctrine...if they are coming into your home you can shoot. Also, if someone is "robbing you" that means they are threatening your life to take your property so you can shoot.
