As a teacher, what happened yesterday terrifies me.

We have one officer posted at the high school I teach at. Our campus is so spread out and so far out in the country that it would be easy for a shooter to strike. What scares me even more, is that my wife is a teacher at the elementary school down the road and they do not have an officer at all. They have only two male teachers and they would be helpless during the event of an active shooter.
My wife and I both have our concealed carry permit but of course we cant carry in school. We either need more officers in schools, especially schools like ours who are way out in the country far away from back up, or to allow teachers/administration to carry guns while also being well trained in tactics and knowledge on how to defend the children and staff of the school.
Guns do not kill people, crazy people with guns kill people.

you think the criminal coming to shoot your school cares about the "gun free zone"
your life. act.

even designating some willing teachers/admins for CC and document who has them would help immensely.

Texas passed a law that enables school districts to voluntarily have armed teachers.
So far mostly rural districts are taking advantage.
City districts are too ate up with liberalism to protect their kids.

A) you're more likely to die in an airplane crash than a school shooting.
B) I don't see any compelling reason to not allow teachers to carry.

At my school we have about 12 or so teachers who have their CC permit. In fact, the CC instructor who I took the class with to get my CC is a teacher at our school and his wife who competes in shooting competitions is our assistant principal. We have plenty of teachers at our school who could defend it, but are not allowed to.

same.
keep it strict. have the admins keep a list so they are aware and make damn sure the teachers who carry keep this info away from students.

As usual, the left does not actually want a solution. It wants to keep this as a wedge issue.

Felony to carry a gun into school. That would be the reason. Losing his teaching license would be just the start.
Like he said, need to change something so they can carry.

I like the idea of having area volunteers (with impeccable backgrounds) openly holster guns at or near school entrances. It would be odd at first, but we'd get used to it.
Post their criminal/psychiatric background check on the wall near where they are stationed.
I am married to a teacher and have kids that would benefit from further protection.
I own numerous guns of all types, hunt and would not be opposed to stricter gun laws relating to mental health screening.

God dammit. I'm agreeing with the big scrub from Texas.

Because he's a law abiding citizen and Looney Liberals passed a law making it illegal for law abiding citizens to protect themselves and students.
They should call them shooting spree zones...

1. I support teachers being allowed to conceal carry.
2. Re: only 1 officer on campus. My HS had over 2,000 kids back in the 60s. We had Zero officers on campus. At least 500 kids had guns in their cars in the student parking lot. Nobody shot anybody. It was a different time.

I don't see why schools can't have at least five teachers trained to carry a concealed handgun. Give a $1,000 bonus or something to each one who volunteers. Have local law enforcement/National Guard/local private trainers give a heavy discount to train and certify these teachers who are carrying for the purpose of school protection. Have them re-certified every two years or so. I wouldn't have any qualms about my kids attending a school where I know a few of the teachers are packing heat. The same could be done for churches.
It is a damn shame that kids today have to think about this crap. I graduated high school in 1997, and never once in all my years at school did I ever think something like this could happen, or felt fear at school.

Maybe because if caught both him and his wife would not only get fired but would never be able to teach again?
Derp.
And don't come at me with "Better than being dead if a school shooting happens" because I'm willing to bet the number of teachers that die each year from school shootings is probably less than some other bullshite way to die (cows, Vending machines, etc.)
Stop being dense, they don't carry because they don't feel the risk is high enough to ruin both of their careers.
