Proliferation of guns into the United States since the 80s is a root cause of the violence

1986 US imported 701k guns* 1986 US exported 217,448 guns*
2016 US imported 5,137,771* guns 1986 US exported 343,456 guns*
1986 US manufactured 3,040,934 guns*
2015 US manufactured 9,358,661 guns*
*This number does not count guns exported to other countries nor does it count US military or law enforcement agency purchases.
ATF 2017 Firearms Annual Statistical Update
1986 total guns roughly 3.5 million put into the US
2016 total guns roughly 14 million put into the US
A fire arm glut into the US has lead to cheap gun prices and easy access for every Tom, Dick, and Harry. You can't solve the problem without addressing the mass proliferation of guns into our streets over the last ten years.

The rise of progressive ideology in the US is the root cause of evil and hate in American society

Who are buying these guns and what are they using them for?
Rednecks and cowboys might own 20 guns a piece, none of which are used to kill others.

Human nature is, and always will be, the root cause of all violence. The availability of guns just makes it easier for humans to use them to carry out violence.

The argument would make sense, but overall violence (and gun violence) is way down since then, so your argument breaks down. Perhaps a specific sort of gun violence - such as mass shootings? - could be linked but I would need to hear a more compelling argument on that.

Doping 2 generations of children of making everyone a victim and not being responsible for their own actions is the cause.

Exactly. Not one had guns in the US before 1980.

Tell that to the Nice, France, or NYC last Oct.

By God I hope this is a weak attempt at trolling.
Run a regression analysis on the number of private guns owned and gun violence and you will see how freaking stupid your point is.

And they are buying them legally.
If you really want to see where some of the problems are, there's a great documentary out there called Underworld Inc. They have the real illegal gunrunners and they wear masks and edit their voices for anonymity. They show you like 8 different ways that they can get illegal guns into peoples hands.
It's pretty amazing and scary. These people will tell you themselves, you can shut down all sales of guns in the US and take away ever gun we have, but it will not stop them and they'd have a tough time even slowing them down.
Again, it's a good watch for anyone, but especially those that think taking guns away from law abiding citizens and then stopping future sales is a good idea.

Then why aren’t total murders up?
Since every Tom, dick, and Harry who gets angry has a gun now
Since murders are a stat that does not fit your agenda why don’t you look at how the left gutted mental health care in the same period?
Can’t offend the kooks

I probably have 20 in my house right now and not a single one has killed anyone.
We don’t have a gun problem, we have a human condition problem.

While mass shootings (such as yesterday) have likely risen, how does your argument explain the significant drop in murders from 80's and 90's levels? Using your argument we have more guns than ever in the US, but less gun violence than we had prior to the glut of guns entering the country. Please explain

How do can guns be the root cause of violence?
