Love the idea, but it will never happen. The crony capitalist big grocery stores and restaurants will take a beating. They will pressure the reps bigly.

Better yet. Make dried beans and rice free
All grocery stores can be paid to stock them
No excuse for hunger

Government cheese makes the best grilled cheeses.

Government peanut butter is the bomb.

I wrote an economics paper in college on in-kind transfers versus food stamps. In-kind was the cheaper, more efficient way to provide nutritional assistance. But when you're buying votes, its more effective to do it with money than it is food.

Lets assume for a minute that you are right, and sending MREs to the poors instead of the lobster card wont save money.

You still aren't fooling anyone with your "substantive cuts" in welfare BS. Don't lecture conservatives about real cuts to entitlements when you spend your entire day on this board hard-legging for dems that want to ramp up entitlement spending.

And don't undersell a president that actually seems to want to start to fix the problem, especially considering he is historically liberal on entitlement reform.

Waste is waste. It's fine to question the methods, but to claim it's not worth it because the waste is too small a piece of the pie is bullshite.

The havoc welfare benefits wreaks on the nation goes way beyond fraud and abuse.

I think the best solution would be "hotels" where people who need a place to live can stay.

I've always thought they should convert old hospitals. You already have the medical/dental facilities and a cafeteria/cooking ability. Get emergency medical, hot meals, etc. Plus space for job training in existing conference rooms.

Staff medical/facilities with interns and residents. Job training and other counseling with psych/msw/counseling students interns PhD candidates.

I see I'm not the only one who thinks this way.

Has anyone estimated how high the piles of dead bodies will be if this plan is implemented.

"Let's assume that you're right. It doesn't matter, because I will assert you're a left-wing Democrat and criticize the views I have just assigned to you on that basis."

Let's assume for a minute that you're right, and I'm a Democrat getting paid by Soros to pretend to have voted Libertarian in every election in their adult life. This would still not be an argument. Few here have difficulty understanding someone can vote for Republicans on a lesser-evil basis without adhering to 100% of their views on all the issues. I'd suggest the same is true of Democrat voters (or those you're assuming are Democrat voters).

This would be the case even if I didn't have posts on this very board agitating for massive cuts to Medicare and social security that I'm too lazy to search right now.

The only "problem" he wants to "fix" is poor people buying food items he doesn't think they're entitled to.

I've always been a fan of having government run grocery stores specifically for the food stamp crowd

Not government run stores, but at least let's make those using EBT have to go to EBT ONLY lines, and the list of foods should be WAY more restricted than it is now.

Why should people who actually pay for their own food have to wait in line behind someone who does not, and observe the disgusting abuse of people buying expensive rib eyes and crab legs. Plus, in my own observations (which makes it a fact), the people who have been sucking these entitlements for years have no shame, and no stigma and think that they deserve it somehow. They should NOT be treated as an equal customer. They are to be tolerated, but that's it.

If they can't pay for them, aren't they, by definition, not entitled to them? The only qualification I'm aware of based on my limited experience with food stores is you be able to pay for what you want.

Yes! That's how welfare for poor families began. Make it so as soon as possible.
