The road diet is the worst idea I’ve seen yet that has been embraced by a majority of idiots. Only in Baton Rouge can you regress and it be considered progress. It’s almost as bad as it the governor and DOTD wanting to add another lane both ways on I-10 to the split. Let’s screw up traffic for 7 years and make everybody more miserable driving in Baton Rouge everyday.
The civil engineers have screwed our roadways up for the last 50 years. They are a bunch of dumbasses. Build a bridge south of Baton Rouge and be done with it. You’ll cut out a ton of traffic going through the city and not stopping the in the metro area.
I was born and raised in this city and it has gone to shite ever since the great New Orleans flood.

He's right you know. 100% agreed on a new bridge sooner the better. Maybe when Trump gets infrastructure going

So just to clarify.. both removing and adding lanes are terrible solutions to traffic problems? And the only answer is a 1 billion dollar bridge in a state with no money to pay for it?

Yeah frick pedestrian and bike friendly infrastructure. Only the worst cities in the country spend money on that.

Don't forget the part about diverting people away from baton rouge where they won't stop to eat or shop.

Im big on added infrastructure but I'm also optimistic that this project has merit.. the biggest issue I've witnessed with government street is the lack of a turning lane. This project solves that and adds an avenue that is greatly needed...pedestrian friendly infrastructure. All data points to pedestrian infrastructure as an important factor long term economic growth in our ever changing economic structure.
Now... it will take to long and be off budget and thusly, hopefully marginally beneficial

Honestly though we have too many damn people on BR roads every day. At this point the suburbs have grown so much, and will keep doing so, that another form of transportation needs to be considered. A monorail or something. I came here when Katrina hit so I admit I am part of the problem. I'll be gone as soon as I can. Real estate in BR is too expensive for what you're getting.

I can’t wait for them to complete this and see how much it changes the neighborhood. I’d love for a naysayer to find one instance where adding pedestrian and bike friendly infrastructure to a similar roadway resulted in a negative impact. I’d bet it’s 1/100 at the very most.

Idea on paper looks good.
Add in most people in BR cannot drive and you have a cluste f&&&.
It is going to divert traffic to Florida Blvd and North Blvd which they should make plans to cover the increase in traffic.

Government Street is a major east-west thoroughfare in Baton Rouge. Taking a 4 lane major transportation route and reducing it to one lane in each direction with a center turn lane with bike and pedestrian lanes each direction is about the dumbest idea I have seen.
Hey, dumbasses, people in Baton Rouge commute to work from the suburbs. We do not ride bicycles or walk 7 miles to work and never will. We drive cars to work and we need roads that can handle the rush hour demands of the working people that live in this area. Kill this idiotic, idealistically generated joke of a project and widen roads as necessary to move traffic.

I love driving down Esplanade Ave while stuck behind a tourist in the single lane from City Park to the River. But hey, at least those patchouli smelling hipsters can easily ride their bikes to get an early start on aggressive panhandling.
Single lanes all over the CBD are great as well!

You are one of those that really doesn’t have a fricking clue.

In light of recent trends in that area, they've renamed the project to the government street "road die"

Please inform everyone where the funding for this $1B+ project will come from, since you are such a genius.
Thanks.

Traffic is a total cluster on government street as it is. The weekly wrecks in a three block stretch attest to it. This will work.

Like almost every other city in America?

So CATS buses are going to be traveling this route?
