I’d be pissed and ask for a refund. No reason at all to not be open right now. Just pure simple laziness on their part. Pathetic.

I just hate being THAT guy, but I have been a member there for years. there's nothing blocking off their employees from making it there. also who wouldn't want to workout when serious companies have either canceled or put in half days?

okay, rant over. I was just genuinely surprised they closed with how the weather has been since noon

Just wondering since no one is really talking about it, but I guess with a wind chill of 5 or 6 degrees maybe it’s not a big concern. I saw a chart that said it has to be -19 or colder and 30 minutes or more exposure.

Wind chill has nothing to do with ice. Only human skin. If it existed there would be a different formula to calculate wind chill for dogs and other animals.

If I wanted to drive from BR to Nola this afternoon, and I took airline, would I be good?

I was at the Winn-Dixie on Hwy 21 in Covington a bit ago and saw a panhandling woman with a young kid in the parking lot. The kid didn't have a coat and she had a sign asking for help. I offered to buy them some food and drive them to a shelter. She refused my offers and said all she wanted was cash.

I told her to GFH, get the kid out of the weather, and called the sheriff's office to report her. Nothing pisses me off more than seeing someone put a child through something like that.

Yeah, you ought to be ok. Left lane will almost certainly be ice free. I'd leave before sundown at least. While slight risk, might have some black ice pop up.

Trash! Purposely freezing the child for sympathy. You did the right thing by reporting her after she declined your offers for a meal and shelter.

While wind chill doesn't really have much to do with ice it does have an impact on attempts to insulate pipes and plants. It's easier to insulate pipes and plants when it's just a radiational cooling freeze. You can trap the ground warmth. An advection freeze with wind is different.

Thanks.

I'm assuming I-10 is still closed because of the spillway?

And the stretch before LaPlace that is elevated. Then elevated parts in New Orleans.

Dude, Airline will be the least of your worries. Guns don't freeze, regardless of how cold NOLA gets. Wear a vest, carry heat, and look behind you.

WAFB

I-10 is closed in both directions from I-49 in Lafayette to Williams Boulevard in Kenner.

I-12 is closed in both directions from I-10 in Baton Rouge to LA 1077 (Madisonville/Goodbee).

I-55 is closed in both directions from LaPlace to just north of Kentwood.

State Police say these Interstate routes will remain closed through Thursday, January 18, 2018.

Damn - looks like they want not a single patch of ice left anywhere on the stretch before the re-open.
