Anyone know how Siegen to Airline is looking? I am assuming the bridge over railroad tracks is still closed.

Please define ... rain, wind, tornado ... ???

No way to know quite yet. The indications are there, however, for a bit of a short-term pattern change that's going to allow impulses of energy sweeping across the south ahead of cold fronts. Chances are hail, wind, and tornado threats will be common.

Don't worry, if there's a legitimate threat on the horizon, I'm sure I or someone else will start the related thread.

Can you summarize what happened or provide a link?

1) How the hell did it get down to 14 degrees?

2) How did we get 5 hours of frozen precip without a gulf low?

3) why was Dec and Jan predicted to be warm and dry yet we got four REALLY cold blasts and two, nearly three frozen precip events.

WHAT IS GOING ON THIS WINTER?

That being said, I’m ready for more!!!

I-10 and 12 were open but not many people were on them.

Airline looked like a parking lot. Looked like a hurricane evacuation.

Deep artic high blew in. Pushed unusually cold air over us and had the benefit of the Midwest snowpack to keep the cold deeper into the south.

Looks like a little piece of energy swung up toward south Texas to give a little help with moisture and lift. Also, when it's that cold, it doesn't take much water to produce precipiation.

Because climo and models can miss stuff.

I can live with that.

Did we have a Greenland Block? I’m assuming we would have had to.

I think it’s crazy how these events come in bunches or are at least coupled with other threats. I suppose anything can happen as long as cold air is in place.

The NAO was positive for all of our cold events oddly enough. The Pacific must have been giving us the energy to have those big jet stream dips.

I guess that explains the unpredictability so far.
2010-11 and 2014 were classic - NAO
