the new database, a PCP has access to more info on a patient's drug history, and in theory should be able to more confidently prescribe.
sounds like a long overdue step in the right direction

absolutely. and Louisiana, per usual, was behind the eight ball in comparison to other states. Better late than never, though.

comparing a shoulder issue to degenerative muscle and joint problems, especially in the back, is laughable

I suspect a lot of these judgers in this thread have never seen a true chronic pain sufferer. I have no doubt that without the help of pain specialists and chiropractors that my cousin might've died of his pain by now

your cousin could just as well visit his PCP and get the same drugs. Folks did just that for a long time before PM clinics existed. It's cheaper to visit a PCP as well, if he has insurance.

Dangerous business these days with the crack down on docs over-prescribing opiods.

For sure. A buddy of mine has been getting a sizable script of Lortab-ish strength pain meds for years. Just recently they surprised him with a mandatory MRI(His out of pocket $500) of his back to continue getting his script. Ouch.

It's because the DEA has cracked down on doctors writing scripts like they're giving out candy.

That and with the new system, it's harder to "doctor shop", so cut down on a lot of business.

Some of these doctors are dirty.

We used to go to one in New Orleans. For $450, he'd give you an MRI, with your name on it but obviously someone else's MRI, and scripts of Percocet, roxy and valium. He used to give oxycontin until they fricked that up.

The first visit was the only one that was $450, bc of the MRI. After, you had a "legit" MRI and the monthly follow up visits only costed $250.

His office stayed packed until they shut it down. I mean it was ridiculous the amount of people in it.

I had to go to the emergency room one night for severe tooth pain and they accused me of all kinds of shite and acted horribly. All I wanted was a dental block.

you can thank Pain Management docs who are wine and dined and 69'd by opiod manufacturers for that. It's a fricked up situation that puts legitimate physicians in a bad spot.

Yea I totally get that. And this effort is more than likely a money grab-kickback but they are forcing all these pain management patients to get legit MRIs. My buddy's insurance is a High Deductible one so he was fricked. Wouldn't be much for me with co-pays and shite.

Comprehensive pain management is a dump. It was owned by a horrible lady, Dr. Weitz. She moved out of Baton Rouge. She would promise the incoming doctors a piece of the practice and then a year later pull the rug out from underneath them. The turnover there is for the same as any other business. Terrible people at the top.

That's kind of what I was thinking. I remember when Weitz was working over there--back in my days as an ambulance chaser. Her expert medical opinion was always for sale--so we used her extensively :-)

But, I figured there had to be a reason for all but one doctor to suddenly abandon the practice.

Thirty years ago regular old doctors prescribed 2.3 BILLION tablets of Valium in a year. That is ten tablets for every man, woman, and child alive in the United States at the time. Not sure it was a hell of a lot better back then.

Great in theory, but PCPs are not wanting to prescribe either

I have a dozen friends that are physicians and all of them will give pain medication.

It’s called Ibuprofen.

elaborate? I place medical malpractice insurance for self employed and hospital employed physicians, and have seen their costs go through the roof. A large reason for that is this epidemic.

True. It really does seem like there are a lot more people with chronic pain conditions these days. Ive heard it's linked to the fluoride in the water
