Family member just got notice from Comprehensive Pain Management that her doctor had left the practice. Her prior assigned physician left there about a year ago. Just checked their website, and they have one (1) doctor remaining for the whole facility.

Anyone have the inside scoop on what's happening over there?

It always seemed like a busy place, and it's not like fewer people are getting hooked on opioids.

Pain docs think that just about all patients are dope addicts

Too much risk and not enough reward

Sucks for people with real issues

Dangerous business these days with the crack down on docs over-prescribing opiods.

Sucks, you'll have to find somewhere else to get your roxy fix now.

Good luck.

It sucks that people who actually need pain meds can’t get them, because of bad people who abuse them to get high

I've already got a hookup for my shite, and it's not through that place.

It just seemed weird that the practice went from like a dozen doctors or so down to just one--all over the course of a year or so.

Could be a multitude of reasons.

Pay could be decreasing.

Scruffy isn’t aware of how that specialty is responding to the opioid crisis and it could have something to do with that.

Personally. Scruffy doesn’t understand how anyone can do that job.

Drug seekers are awful to deal with.

This exactly. Pain management docs (at least in the industry I work in) are thought of the same way that chiropractors and plastic surgeons are. Their main focus is getting people hooked on addictive drugs that they often don't truly need.

It stems back to a certain way that people view the medical field, ISO.

Medicine isn’t equivalent to a repair shop and pills don’t fix everything. People believe there is a medicine that cures every ailment.

There isn’t.

Scruffy is willing to state that the vast majority of medical problems people face can be fixed with lifestyle changes.

And all can get that help through their PCP, or specialists. The majority of Pain Mgt. Doctors are operating strictly pill factories. They came into existence under the premise that they were going to treat chronic pain by weaning patients off of meds, and establishing various methods for dealing with pain outside of Opiods.

The thing is, it was a sham, sounded great, and they got the green light. But when they started treating, they literally just started running patients through and loading them up with drugs, and with no end in sight. They created addicts, and have life time patients.

The world was a much better place 30 years ago, when PM didn't exist, and treating doctors knew not to hook their patients on Oxycontin for chronic back pain, a pill developed to treat pain in terminal cancer patients.

Great in theory, but PCPs are not wanting to prescribe either

Pain management is an actual need that does not always go away and does not involve dope addicts. Problem is that physicians don't know how to tell the difference because they cannot relate to constant pain that cannot be fully fixed.

Maybe they need clinics within the damn pharmacies that will dispense as needed. Then they can control supply and work towards restricting outside sales.

Let me summarize this for you. 75% of people who have chronic pain, really don't have any pain. It's psychological for most and a dependency.

25% more than likely have legit issues that could not be readily solved by surgery or those extensive procedures.

And yes. I pulled those numbers out my arse but it's my experience.

Because the level of addiction in our society is out of control.

You sound like an addict.

If you can’t survive without your opioids, you are an addict.

I deal with pain but I don't take any of that stuff. Even when I sprained my ankle a few years ago (bad sprain, leg swelled up all the way to the knee), I said no when the doctor was ready to write a script.

It would be nice if THC could be legalized. I would take edibles for pain management in a heartbeat.
