Help me find my new boat

I was strongly leaning towards a Gheenoe with the aluminum center console like this one
However after really mulling it over, I’m not sure this is the greatest decision with a wife and 4 year old son. I would like more room for them to be a bit more comfortable. I also have two fishing buddies that I go with a good bit. Not being able to see the setup I want in person without driving 8+ hours is sort of souring me as well.
Here are some things I’d like in a boat.
1) poling platform above motor
2) shallow water capable
3) easily hold 3 fishing adults
4) seating for at least 3 people
5) front decking
Budget is $15k but would go up to $20k for the right boat.

18" flats boat would better suit you. A buddy of mine purchased an Action Craft 18" with 150 mariner for 9G's. Good for three fisherman. It has low sides though.

It's tricky to find the right mix of draft and open water capability in a shallow water boat. Do you need to be in water 6" or less? Ok with being around 1 ft of draft? Do you want to pole or do you just want to fish shallow? Action Craft is a good suggestion. Hewes Redfisher can be found in that price range.
Gheenoes are cool boats but I wouldnt want to fish 3 out of one.

I was just looking at the action craft 1820. Pretty sweet looking boat. I don’t need to be in 6” or less. I’m coming from a kayak so I need to understand that I have much more range now , so my usual super shallow spots won’t be necessary any more. I think I’d be ok with a foot of draft. I would like to pole as I want to get into fly fishing eventually. I’m going to look up Hewed Redfisher.

Gatortail/prodrive rig. Center console with poling platform. Can take abuse and the motor can actually get u out of a jam.

Buy the boat that you personally will use the most especially when you will be the one using it 90% over your wife and kids. Your family can go in that gheenoe.
You can always go out on friends or families or rental boats the other small percentage of a time. Way too many guys buy boats for their 'family' when they would use it personally 4 times a month and their families 4 times a year, then you personally use the boat less and less because it's not purposed for what you need it for.
Personally, no way I'd buy a LT gheenoe in your circumstance. Get yourself a cheaper classic for $4,000 maybe $6000 and see how much you like it and use it.

Where are you predominantly fishing?
I went through this same thing recently, just remember that 4 yr old gets big fast (and requires more room to cast).
The flats would be good for what you sound like your into. The Gheenoes are very nice, room would be my only concern going forward.

Where do you live? I have a Gheenoe I purchased a few months ago. You're more than welcome to come check it out or come fishing in it. I have the LT25 model without the center console (more room).

As you know, I have a classic. I've had 4 adults, battery, trolling motor, and a full cooler in it for a ride and it was pretty sketchy but the little thing was very impressive. We had around 1000lbs in the boat not including motor and platforms etc. and it was still going 25mph and never felt like it was going to tip. That being said, I would not want to fish 3 adults from a Gheenoe, there's just not enough room. I've loved the Gheenoe and it's the perfect switch from kayak to boat. The main limiting factor on the Gheenoe is open water capability. I've had it in some decently rough water and never felt like I was going to sink but I wouldn't want to make it an every day occurrence.
FWIW, I am selling the Gheenoe to move into a bigger skiff. This is mainly because I hate fishing around other boats and usually run a good ways before I start fishing and I feel this would be way quicker and more comfortable from a larger skiff. I will 100% own another Gheenoe at some point in the future tho.

I love in Abita Springs
I fish mainly around Hopedale/Reggio/Delacroix but that may change with a boat.
I do hunt but I don’t want that to factor into my decision because fishing is my number one and I want to be very happy when I’m fishing.
What larger skiffs are you looking at reds?

I paid 18k for this boat when it was 1 year old with 30 hours on the motor (trolling motor, power poll, GPS, everything). I casually looked online for months and one day came across it. Called the guy immediately and had a boat by the weekend. Cheaper than center console gator tail and did the type of fishing I wanted to do MUCH better. Fairly certain the guy was stuck in a note he couldn't pay and basically sold it for what he needed to pay off the note. So the key is being patient and finding that perfect situation.
It's not the best flats boat that exists, but we fished 3 grown men out of it regularly.
I sold it when I moved from the coast and wasn't able to make a trip every weekend
. Granted I sold it for 23k

The Gheenoe will do great in all those locations. That's where I primarily fish and there's basically nothing around there that it can't fish.

Ranger Banshee Extreme. Don't think they make them anymore (as of like 2014-2015). It's been a few years since I shopped, but they had tons of them in Florida for good deals and I was close to making a road trip. One day, guy on the westbank posted his on LA sportsman and that was that.
I will admit, it has very very low sides, so taking a young child might be sketch just from a falling out perspective, but otherwise, I loved the boat for cruising the marsh.

Do not think I could ever have a gheenoe because we either have to cross small lakes or the ICW with tug traffic. Only way I see they work is if you never have to touch open water.
I would feel much safer with the family in a non tiller flats boat.

Look up Spear Skiffs, Harry Spear makes a very good skiff and you can order just the boat and trailer and rig it out yourself.
It's a minimalist style, a step up from a Gheenoe.
