Anyone have any experience/knowledge on the Xpress 185 Skiff? I like this boat a lot, I know it's above my price range but the extra seating is a big positive.

Solid boat for sure just like any xpress but i hvent heard any first hand experiences on this model.
i used to have an xpress bay boat. My FIL has an h18 bass and only fishes reds in leevill. Can take a beating and get skinny.
No true dry storage sucks along with the fuel tank taking up rear deck storage. Hull may be a little loud if you are trying to sneak up on fish

the 185 actually has the fuel tank up front to offset weight

Agreed on most points here.

Fishing 2 in gheenoe is comfortable. Need a back deck or platform though. Fishing 3 will be annoying at best

You can find good used gheenoes in floria for <10K. The boat holds up well. I jumped marsh floaton in mine several times as well as logs while duck hunting.

Ahh..i assume it is still between the hull and deck taking away storage. juut something to consider if that matters to you

Yeah it does. I've emailed the 8 closest express dealers and gotten a few responses, so far none of them carry this model. They could order one, but I want to look at one in person before making any kind of commitment.

I heard some mention that the welds on the Xpress skiff looked sketchy. This was second hand info and when they first came out so maybe they have addressed it?

For the life of me I can't remember which dealership had them but someone in Louisiana had 2 of those Xpress skiffs on display at the LA Sportsmans show at Lamar that were marked as flood damage sales I want to say around $18k. Don't remember who it was though. Looked like nice boats, just didn't seem to have much storage room.

The Express looks pretty cool. There’s a lot of other skiffs in that price range that I would consider of that tho.

Well I'm not ruling anything out or in at this point, and it seems my budget has increased to $26k I just need to start looking at things and crossing things off my list. I want a flats/skiff with some decent seating, poling and casting platforms. If it was in the budget, I'd buy one of these today. I love the seating on the beavertails and I could get bluemoons to give me a ride on his. Damn this is a beautiful boat.

Bluemoons has an East Cape Fury.
Orvis is having their Travel Day on January 27 and there will be a bunch of skiffs there. Cayo 173, East Cape Fury, Sabine, Beavertail, Hells Bay and who knows what else.

I found 2 other threads on here about the direction we're going in this thread. Already read one and on to the other and it's clear I don't know what the frick I want.

After reading about poling vs just shallow water, I'm thinking that I don't necessarily need to pole, although I would like a poling platform. But the open water limitations are causing me to question my initial thoughts. I don't know if I want a skiff or a flats boat. Back to reading. I really appreciate everyones help.

A larger 18’ skiff is pretty damn open water capable. Poling is mostly if you’d be sight fishing/fly fishing in calm, shallow water. If you don’t plan on doing any of that then a flats boat/small bay boat might be the best option for you.

I heard one will be there but I'm not sure if it's confirmed or not. I'm really hoping so because I've been needing to check out a Cayo in person.

Definitely not mine. I'm way too unreliable for that sort of thing.
