Degrees awarded means nothing, affirmative action means that black women have the lowest standards for getting into college of anyone. The system is a total joke. I've seen black women with ivy league degrees that were dumber than a door knob. It's a laughable statistic.

It's the highest percentage demographic currently in college...doesn't necessarily support the OP claim

One thing does not equal the other...

On the flip side anecdotally (which also doesn't support the OP'sclaim), there are many black women that work in government jobs...many that require degrees

Why are so many of y'all triggered by that Hidden Figures movie? I don't get it. Seemed extremely positive to me.

My mom has a math undergrad degree and one of my sisters will have earned hers by the end of the year. That's the kind of shite we should be promoting, tbh

As a percentage of their population, black women have a very high college and post-graduate enrollment. That certainly doesn't necessarily equate to being educated

Right... "mostly get bullshite degrees" -- as if MOST college kids, especially trust fund babies who only have to get a degree to meet some kind of requirements, don't get random degrees? Especially liberal arts majors-- the whitest area in education. So, I love how people say this as if this isn't true among every demographic (except immigrant populations).
Most black kids aren't allowed to just go to college for fun and waste time. It's usually some kind of associate's or bachelor's degree to get a specific job or for sports. Beecause if you aren't about to be able to help the family, you might as well find a job elsewhere. Many people who don't know what they want to do just get a degree in business or nursing. A few do liberal arts, so that they can teach. In fact, I know more black people with degrees than I do without them. Many of those degrees are just as impressive as any other. Sure, there's a few that lack guidance and just major in whatever, but that is MOST students, so don't try and single us out.
So let me take some time to tell you about the bullshite degrees (BS) we have:
- My mom has a BS in Chemistry, she now has a PhD in Biochemistry
- My father has a BS in Electrical Engineering, and an MS in Biomedical engineering
- My brother has a BS in Electrical Engineering
- My sister has a BS in Biology and a MPH
- My best friend has a BS in Biology, and she will be finishing her PhD in Cancer Biology this year
- My roommate in college has a BS in Civil engineering
- My other best friend has a BS in Industrial Engineering, and an MS in Health Systems and engineering
- My best friends growing up, one is a nurse who got a BSN; the other has BS in Nutritional sciences, but decided instead to get her MBA so that she can focus on Healthcare administration--she hated working to inspect food-- they both work at MD Anderson now
- A Few of my friends have their JDs
- A few of my friends are pharmacists-- oh did I mention that my grandfather was a pharmacist? and my uncle is one too... his wife is a civil engineer/ municipal planning by training, but now she teaches math since she wants to retire soon. She also got bored and decided to get a Master's in Social Work just in case I guess?
- My other friend is a dentist, and so is her husband-- they met in dental school.
- Let's not even mention the 400+ black alumni I'm in this huge Group chat with who almost all have degrees in STEM- related fields. They're all recent grads... as well as their spouses and significant others.

I really could do this all night, so I'm gonna stop.

And for me, I got my BS in Polymer Engineering. I have a MS in Biochemistry, and I'm currently a second year medical student. There are also 100+ medical students in my graduating class who are also black.

But yea--- we mostly get dumb, useless degrees anyways, so.

All degrees aren't created even remotely equal.

There is a study that says it. You can find a study that says whatever you want it to. I looked it up before...it’s there.

Going to College and getting "educated" does not make one intelligent or smart.

I’ve seen some very intelligent black women, but they are more the exception in that group. IMO, Asians seem more educated as a group. Black women rack up more scholarships by average, just by being the preferred minority groupin the US, which may lead to them having more opportunities on average.

Isn't it possible that there is more to learn to become a welder, plumber, electrician, or auto mechanic than a gender studies graduate? I can guarantee those gender classes are a cakewalk.

Sure, and theres alot to learn to become an elite NBA player. But I doubt many people would consider Lebron more “educated” than Ben Carson just because hes richer and more successful.
