I think the hard part about diff eq was Laplace transforms and power series solutions. Those can get real tricky if you get slightly off track.

I spent a lot of nights memorizing tables :(

PTSD setting in now.

see a lot of baws saying DiffyQ. I didn't find that class that terribly difficult if you understood Linear Algebra and Matrix Methods.
I thought ODEs were ok. Partials are what killed me. It was required for my grad degree, but the normal teacher that taught the engineering version wad on sabbatical, so I had to take it from the pure math folks. Sucked a fat one

Just fricking with you. I was always good at math but I hated it. Never took it in college. I am also a high income earner and technically considered a "genius", though I don't really think I'm all that intelligent.

In high school - Calculus

Undergrad - Differential Equations

Graduate - Mathematical Methods in Engineering (teachers name at LSU is Phuc Nguyen)

Linear Systems Analysis when Aravena was still alive

I see this class cited any time a “most difficult” or “weedout” thread is started, and rightfully so.

In addition to using combinations of high level math methods for solutions, the only ways to determine which methods to use, and in which order, was either by experience (that none of us had), or by trial and error.

Also, the textbook for the course was not used at all, and if you tried to use it as a reference you discovered there was no correlation between the material in the book and what Aravena did in the class.

Advanced Calc or Linear Algebra were the two highest but Diff EQ with LaPlace was the most difficult for me.

as far as math level and income, yea it matters because most STEM jobs pay more on average and those are the main jobs that require it.

this thread is a classic case of posting sample bias

just like the "high ACT" threads, the people who took the highest maths are much more likely to post (from a general posting sample of being WAY more educated than the general population)

Honors Calc 1 for me

it's disgusting to me that real Calc isn't a requirement for all degrees.

Absolutely agree on everything but the requirement of Calc. This board in general is a terribly biased sample with most being either college grads or attended college so they tend to be more intelligent and higher income earners.

Calc is just not needed by 99% of the population, especially with the way you are taught the classical way of solving equations by the math professors. Hell I dont even use it that much in engineering/project management.

I will say I do feel like it teaches critical thinking skills, but so do word problems. These skills are much more useful and unfortunately most of the engineers I work with couldn't think their way out of a paper bag and all they know is the book.

Math is my Achilles’ Heel.

Took me three tries to get through Math 0092 (Remedial) at LSU. Then made it through my only required math, 1021 College Algebra, with relative ease. Thought I was finished with math for the rest of my life. Transferred to another university and was informed I had to take Calculus.
I finished it with a B, but have no idea how.

Calculus 2 or Trigonometry 1.

I'm not sure which is higher tbh but frick them both. I squeaked by with a C and it took all I had to do that.

Only classes I remember ever really struggling with

THIS

Next time I'm stuck on a deserted (except for me) island and have to figure out the dispersion rates of fluids, I'll get back on it.

Only B I ever made in a Math course.
