Texas wasn't in good shape when Herman took over
Yeah, it gets real tiring to read the "OMGZ HERMANZ SUX! TEXAS 6-6!"
Does it occur to them that maybe Orgeron took over a better team in LSU, and that's why he had the better record? Shocking I know.
If Herman took over LSU and Orgeron's at Texas LSU probably doesn't lose to Troy and Texas does even worse than they did.

And here we go... you searched through this thread and said nothing until someone said something negative about Miles and here comes Ricky to the rescue.... your obsession with defending Miles is creepy....

With countering stupid statements about our historically most successful coach? That's not creepy. What's creepy is the O sycophants that cry at the drop of a hat when factual statements are made about O, whose claim to fame at LSU is a potential 10-3 season.

Saban, Richt, Malzahn, Smart, Fisher. 2 of the 5 have NCs. This is not when you hire someone to learn on the job.

You don't think he has a slight problem when anyone says something negative about Miles????

Oh really!
O gave Malzahn a Loss and would have pounded Fisher at FSU this year. We get to see him vs Richt first game next year and against Jimbo vs A&M. And he played Bama/Saban as tough as anyone the past 2 years. He is doing fine, and he showed me a lot what he did to right the ship after Troy. He interfered then learned from his mistakes.

It's the pathological frequency with which he does it that borders on creepiness. He is obsessed with knighting for Miles. It's like he has some kind of an alert that goes off whenever a negative Miles comment is posted and he rushes right in to counter it.
With that said, I'll just slink back into the shadows with my popcorn and watch for the Ricky vs PJ showdown.

I think Orgeron learned a lot this year
You "learn" how to coach at non SEC schools not LSU!
I swear some people settle for so much less than what they should.
I hope Coach O succeeds as much as any LSU fan but this thread is just sad.

O promised play offs to get the job. Are you saying that is not what he meant? He was part of the staff and knew what was there in facilities, staff and players. He knew the discipline problems of each team member before making the promise. He knew better than any other candidate we did or would have spoken to what LSU's potential was and then promised the playoffs. Playoffs it is then, because O spoke those words from his own mouth. I will get you in the playoffs now or you can fire me. OK O you got the job now 2018 playoffs are the bottom line.

More hagiography for St. O.
We were shut out at home last year, and Bama was taking a victory knee at the end of the game this year. Bama also lost to Clemson last year and to Auburn this year, so I don't understand how O played them as tough as anyone.
Enjoy celebrating O's virgin birth on the 25th.

I take it you don't like O.... why dont you go root for another team then...

Why would you say that? I don't hate the man or even dislike him per se. I don't think he deserved to be hired as the Head Coach of LSU.

Such an asinine statement. How about this? You obviously don't care very much about LSU because you support someone as LSU's Head Coach that obviously did not have the credentials to be hired as such. There, why don't you go cheer for another team?

He hired O because of his potential of being a very good head football coach.
Based on...what exactly? I'm asking sincerely, because this line of reasoning baffles me.
Orgeron has had ONE opportunity to run his own program, and he took an Ole Miss program to arguably it's lowest depths in their already shaky recent history. and it wasn't just the record, but the program was plagued with the kind of shite that WE AT LSU used to point and laugh at because it was happening to Ole Miss!
Since that time, he's had one interim HC gig at SC rising from DL coach, and one interim gig at LSU rising from DL coach before you claim Alleva hired him because he saw "potential."
Unless the suggestion is that these 2 short stints taking over programs in trouble as the interim equate to a job performance that erases his actual past performance of running his own program in the SEC, I have no idea what it is people are clinging to to assume that there's anything put pure wishful thinking here.
Had he gone to some smaller school, proven that ole Miss was a fluke and done well, then he might have have actually earned a second chance at a bigger school who would STILL be taking a risk given how badly he failed at Ole Miss. But, at least it would have given everyone one more head coaching job to use in assessing his potential success.
quote:
Finding the next great coach is not a perfect science.
Agreed...which is why you don't make the hiring process that much less likely to succeed by hiring a "project" and hope for the best.
quote:
Ask yourself this. How many great coaches are out there?
In the case of this hire, that question is irrelevant. The better question is how many coaches out there are considered by everyone as better head coaching candidates than Ed Orgeron? And sadly, his bar is so low that the list above him is actually staggering. Essentially, anyone with head coaching experience with a career record above .500 was a way better option...but given what we have to offer, there's no doubt that we COULD HAVE gotten a very highly regarded current or up and coming coach rather than hiring a man with a sub .500 career coaching record.
