People in Baton Rouge can't drive on sunny days in the summer, let alone when there is slush/sleet on the roads. If the weather is going to be nasty in the morning and closing schools keeps the kids at home and safe and off the streets, then I have no problem with it.
Its actually easier on me when school is closed so I'm all for it. Don't have the wake them up etc and much less traffic on my drive to work.

Seriously. Driving through Pearl River is terrible with all the school buses. There are no bus stops anymore. The buses literally stop in front of every kid's house to pick them up.

East Baton Rouge Parish Schools will he CLOSED tomorrow due to weather
This is so damn goofy literally less than an inch of snow predicted and shite closes down?

You are smarter than this....

It is actually much easier to drive when there is a ton of snow on the ground than it is for what we get here, which is a slushy mess of ice/sleet/frozen rain/snow. There is no need to put people on the roads here with all that going on, especially kids riding in a bus or high school kids who can't drive worth a shite anyway. Better safe than sorry.

See, this I actually didn't know, but that makes a ton of sense.

There are places that close schools when it gets as hot/humid as we get on a regular basis.

Its all about what people are accustomed to or equipped for.

This I actually need to see

But I hadn't considered what the poster above had mentioned, that extra snow would actually help traction compared to what we're expecting. I'm wrong!

I really did walk to school in the snow. And even over a railroad track. No hills though.

Literally most of the country does with substantially less snow

As close to freezing as it'll be, and icy stuff falling, we could hot freezing or below. We have a lot of bridges that'll ice if that scenario plays out. Driving on ice isn't something the most experienced places are very good at.

This. We have no snow plows, snow tires, chains, etc. There are water ways and bridges or overpasses every 50 ft. We do at least have road salt for the major highways, but no one around here ever learned how to drive on icy roads. It ends up looking like the demolition derby in the streets out there most days, and then add ice to it and you get carpocalypse.

LSU administration meeting soon and will have decision by 5:00 apparently. It's a big decision to make with finals, but are exams really worth risking the lives of their students?

:Obvious bias here bc I dont want to take my last exam:

BETTER NOT CANCEL LSU! We didn't get that luxury during finals week during 2008, why should they now?! Assholes.

Or, maybe they learned what a disaster that was.

Any word from LSU/BRCC re closures? I’ve got online BRCC students who are taking finals this week and who are already trying to get some extra time.
